Several new monsters from the 2025 Monster Manual have hit the internet. In addition to a plethora of preview articles tied to a press briefing held last week (read EN World's preview here), several art pieces and other previews also made their way onto the internet over the course of the last few days. Here's a look at the new monsters along with what we know about them:

Vampire Familiar:

The D&D social media accounts posted a statblock of the new Vampire Familiar creature to their social media accounts earlier today. Notably, the creature's dagger attack deals two types of damage and it also can dash or disengage as a bonus action. Personally, I like the fact it has a climb speed to make encounters extra creepy.

Blob of Annihilation:

This is the high CR ooze threat talked about frequently over the past year during various D&D marketing blitzes promoting the new Core Rulebooks. Notably, the blob has the skull of a god inside.

Haunting Revenant:

The Haunting Revenant is a revenant that possesses the house where their mortal form was killed. Details about this new kind of undead was revealed over on YouTube by the social media creator DianaOfTheRose.

Sphinxes of Wonder:

And finally, these are sphinx of wonder. These appear to be low-level sphinxes, with bright colorful fur and traditionally feline faces. The "Everything You Need to Know" video showed off a larger sphinx with a similar fur pattern and color scheme, so this appears to be a redesign.

I like that that DianaOfTheRose video has a shout out to the other content creators who got access to other monsters
She seems like a good egg, although her vibe is significantly more Twitch (where she spends most of her time as a creator) than the other D&D YouTubers, which took me a bit to get used to. (Her swinging around the iPhone while talking to it can still make me woozy ;))

I suspect the mythology and lore of World of Darkness by White Wolf has been a great influence in other franchises.

The haunted revenant shouldn't be too different to the (greater) "animators", a construct-like creature from Ravenloft. I wonder if here there is some possible influence of analogical horror subgenre.

I would bet some player with freak ideas wanted a haunted-revenant monster-ally to defend his bastion. Why? For protect her family during a zombie apocalypse, or a raid by gnolls.

With the Vampire Familiar I am 1 step closer to creating a campaign or adventure where a vampire count, werewolf pack and mad scientist with golems fight for control of a isolated duchy with just official monsters.

And you can do Monster House as a side quest as one of the consequences of their victims.
