Summoned Shadows

I haven't decided yet, I was going to take a look at the shadow dimension entry in the new Manual of the Planes

what would you grant the shadow instead of STR damage?

If you think about it, most of the shadows would be best used as scouts and spies rather than melee companions at that kind of level.

I quite like the idea of the shadows being from the shadow plane rather than undead shadows, and the loss of Str drain fits in with this. I might even allow shadow dogs and horses for shadowdancers...

Now where *was* that Shadow template :)

I'm pretty sure the sage said the shadows can't make spawn at some point. Does anyone else remember this? I'd probably play it this way in my campaign. It just doesn't seem right for them to be able to reproduce.

Oh, and if the first one was under the necro's controll, why would it order its spawn to kill the necro? Couldn't the necro order it to give them other orders?

Well, shadows do make a touch attack, and a str drain scales much better than a hp attack would. Still, that was always the reason I didn't want to play one of these guys. The shadows have much less survivability than a familair, but you still take an xp hit.
