Morrowind

I thought it was the best computer* RPG I'd ever played. I didn't care for the previous Elder Scrolls games, but Morrowind was incredible. The degree of detail, the graphics, the storyline - all excellent.

*: I actually played the XBox version, but it's pretty much the same as the PC.

I actualy just got it last week(pc ver). Ive been having fun with it so far. And if you get tired of playing your regular game you can open the command window and use some script codes to up powers for a little side fun game with a powerfull char. But as far as the regular game goes, you can follow the "quests" and "main story line" or not depending on preferance so far as I can tell. And there is a lot to see and fight. There are some cool things like being able to make spells / enchant items(I have a sweet Dai Katana) and other things.

Anyway its fun to me so far. I may get the expansion.

Peace.

Tip: be sure and read books you find on shelves, in chests etc. Even ones belonging to NPC's. You can gain skill/ability points from books. And as long as you just read them and not take them you dont get any theft chages brought against you.

It's the greatest singleplayer crpg I've ever played.

It has only one major fault. Once you get to +30 level (depending on your skill choices), or once you get one of the spellcasting skills to the maximum level, the difficulty level pretty much breaks down and there's very little you can't handle. (but of course then you can use the editor to create some megatough encounters)

I'm hoping the second expansion disk that should be released soon is designed for higher level characters.

Personally, I found it boring. Having played Arena and Daggerfall, I was underwhelmed by its lack of improvements, outside of graphics, over its predecessors. I actually gave it away after less than a week, to a person who ended up giving it away after about 2-3 weeks. But hey, maybe if you haven't played Daggerfall, or have forgotten what it's like, it could be a good game.

I guess I disagree with you here Maraxle.

Morrowind fixed a lot of the things I didn't like about Daggerfall.. such as the Fedex quests, and overly generic missions.

While I miss the random dungeons and some of the flavor of the Daggerfall setting we have Mods and expansions to prolong the already stunning 300+ hours of gameplay.

For those of you considering it I find that your average First Person Shooter fan will be disappointed by the slower pace of Morrowind, even though it resembles a mystic Quake game. The story and setting are unique however and rich with adventure and challenge for most of the game. Bloodmoon so far as I've seen adds some nice new features and challenges that compliment Tribunal and Morrowind.

Hmmm... Since my opinion seems to differ from the crowd here, maybe I should qualify it with my other gaming likes and dislikes.

Likes:
Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale/Neverwinter Nights
Daggerfall
SSI Gold Box Series
Civilization I and III (II just didn't do it for me)
Master of Magic
ICO [ps2]
Grand Theft Auto III (and to a lesser extent Vice City) [ps2]
"classic" games (Atari, NES, SNES, etc)
Triple Play Baseball [ps2]
Puzzle games (Tetris, etc)

Dislikes:
First-Person Shooters (burned out on them back in the DOOM days)
Racing Games
Japanese-style RPGs, like Final Fantasy
Max Payne

I have similar tastes, I just enjoy Morrowind for the atmosphere and the 'free roaming' features.. a lot of people don;t care for that aspect.

Only one word to describe this game.

Tedious.

There are also serious flaws in the game. I found that you could transport to another town in the Wizards guild. Steal all kinds of stuff from that guild then transport back to your starting town and sell it. You became immensly rich and the only danger would be if the plot sent you to that town again.
