Mortality Radio

Does anyone here miss Mortality Radio as much as I do? Sure, I listen to a dozen or so gaming podcasts, but for the most part, I find them pretty boring and weak on content.

Mortality Radio was live, a shoutcast, and that gave it a certain something these podcasts are missing. During its time, it also had GREAT guests - probably a factor of the nonexistant competition that podcasts face now amongst themselves.

The live element, the focus on GAMING content, and not lame, overused jokes, and the great guests and listener (live) feedback were a winning combination.

I know that Smaug had some really nasty personal issues (I believe he even lost his house in a Florida hurricane, if I recall correctly!) and Adlon soon followed suit, have real-life issues that killed off Mortality. The site's still there, but I hardly ever see Adlon anymore. I hope they're both doing better than they were. Bad stuff happened to a pair of pretty nice guys.

I miss that show. I never was there for a live podcast, but I liked listening to it. Granted, it was a trainwreck sometimes, usually because of horrible phones (troll phones), or Adlon and Smaug became distracted with something and left a lot of dead air. YET I really, really enjoyed the show.

While I enjoyed the live particpatory aspect of Mortality Raadio, trading off the poor sound quality with the more thoughtful presentation behind the Dragon's Landing Inn podcast...

is really no contest at all. The Dragon's Landing Inn podcasts are better produced and far preferable. Chuck and Lonnie have great rapport and considerable experience at this now. Together with some expensive microphones and reasonable mixing equipment - well - lets say you'll be pleasantly surprised at what a difference quality audio and thoughtful commentary makes.

I downloaded quite a few to listen to. Some of the guests were pretty good and gave a bit of insight into the history of the game. I find it interesting, even now, listening to some of the older shows when 3rd Edition had just come out. It was definitely an amatuer set-up but I liked it just the same.

I'm moderately tech savvy but I don't have an iPod (or any portable MP3 player for that matter). Is it still possible to listen to Podcasts on your computer? If so, then there are a few I might download to listen to.
