Most fun adventure?

So, what's the most fun adventure for D&D (3e) or d20 fantasy, that you've DMed or had a PC in?

And, why's that?

edit --- made the title a bit more nicer. ;)

That would have to be the time I ran Vault of Larin Karr. That sucker is so well balanced between wilderness exploration, strong NPC storytelling and good old dungeon crawl, the players and I loved every session from start to finish. I also had a circumstance modifier to liking it as a DM: it's the only time I actualy had the "4 players" at the table the game assumes nowadays and so I didn't have to modify any encounters. Glee! :)

Not sure... your question sounded like you might have been referring to a published adventure. I'll cover both just to be safe.

Run:
  • Of all time - I'd probably have to say that an adventure that I might name "The Innocent Enchantress". The party is working for a royal guard called The Bloodguard. They are charged with arresting magic wielding criminals. They are sent to arrest an enchantment. They soon find out that she is innocent, they are being manipulated by a doppleganger in league with their party nemesis only AFTER they willingly walk into a jail cell with the accused. It was a breathtaking role-playing and investigation rich game with lots of combat and tense moments. I was truly running on all cylinders for that game.
  • Published - Hard to say, it's been a long time since I derived a great deal of fun from running adventures. Brewing my own is more my style. For D&D, probably D1-2. Lich Lords and Elves (by Mayfair) were a lot of fun as well.

Played:
  • Of all time - So many choices here. One that stands out in my memory (and then, only certain details) where were the gameworld was a fantasy take on ringworld, and we struggle against a wizard taking over using recaptured ancient technology.
  • Published - Probably Queen of the Demonweb Pits. In a munchkin way.

Three-way tie for me all first level adventures from Dungeon magazine .....

Mad God's Key (1st level/Dungeon #114) - Jason Bulmahn
Best Urban start for any campaign. An interesting story with a great chase scene and a solid beginning dungeon.

The Whispering Cairn (1st level/Dungeon #124) - Erik Mona
From the AoW AP. Best low level dungeon design to date. A little work to get started if you dont come from the town/region in the adventure but definately worth it. Very memorable. late edit*** Two very insidious traps here (the Juicer is flat-out mean) :)

There is No Honor (1st level/Dungeon #139) - James Jacobs
From the ST AP. Im running this one right now and all I can say is that it's perfect in every way. Solid story with lots to do (urban, dungeon). It reads like a movie and my group loves it so far.

Yeah. I've said it a hundred times, but I'll say it again - Savage Tide is *awesome*.

I really want to run the adventure involving the aranea and spider eaters in a recent dungeon... was it "Scourge of the Spider Eaters" or something like that? It's a neat little 1st level adventure, involving pirates, jungles, and a battle between the aranea and spider eaters. It's cool because you don't have the usual villains for a 1st level encounter - PCs are actually fighting large-size critters and have to deal with shape-shifters.

The recent adventure based around the Lost City is also one I'd love to run, but will probably never get around to. Any adventure that has a party scene is good. Any adventure where said party scene breaks down and has the guests act in *bizarre* ways that the PCs won't be able to figure out right away is *priceless*.

But my favourite adventure in 3e ever was a homebrew, involving the PCs trying to warn a nearby town of a goblin invasion during the winter months. The scene involving a dog-sled chase through a forest is probably everyone's favourite combat scene ever (my personal favourite part was the wizard summoning critters directly in the path of the goblins chasing them).

I very much enjoyed playing in Ascension of the Magdalene by Atlas Games. This is odd, 'cause I intensely dislike Unknown Armies -- and the adventure in question is basically UA cosmology grafted onto d20 rules via D&D. The fun came about as a collusion of the two systems that it drew inspiration from.

Well, its for d20 Modern, but me and mine thought this was a blast of fun. Chickens in the Mist is a Modern Dispatch written by my partner Craig Largent and my gamers have developed several sayings since playing it like: "At least its not giant mutant chickens!" or "If I hear a cluck I'm outta here!"

That was fun and funny.

Wow, I was expecting RHoD and Shackled City to be candidates at least once or twice.

Still, Christmas break and all that. Give it time, I guess. :)

QFT. I agree with the above summary.
