Most Ironic Winner of the WotC Setting Contest

I'm not sure Jack Wick actually has much of a chance. Isn't he mostly famous for 7th Sea? The setting for that is often ridiculed as being almost identical to Earth, but being completely unplausible. For instance, there are pirates like from our pirate days, but since there was no New World full of gold going to Spain in 7th sea, or anything equivalent, there was no actual reason for the Pirates to be there.

Pat Pulling. She was the biggest anti-D&D crusader (Jack Chick is just the lamest). She's also dead, which increases the irony by quite a bit.

Seriously, though, I would go with Monte Cook. It would be funny for him to design D&D, write several good products, leave WOTC, then win the contest.

Using that logic, I would vote for E.G.G.!

CO-RE-design, thank you. :-P

Let's not forget a couple of guys named Gygax and Arneson.

John actually, but anyway,

I think he's got a better shot than 99% of people who enter. He's a professional game designer. He knows the business, he knows how to write a proposal that will get read. He, theoretically, knows what ideas will and wont sell. Most of the entrants will be ameteurs. Nothing against the DM or player who got up the courage to enter and subject their baby to the scrutiny of professionals, but let's face it, the pros have a better shot at winning this thing.

John Wick would make my list. He's very, very much into "rules light" games (as in: he likes a ruleset you could write on a cocktail napkin). So he would actually be a good canidate for 100 pages of pure setting and leaving the mechanics up to someone else. At the same time ... well ... he's not D&D 3e's biggest fan.

But since John's taken, I'll pick Steve Jackson.
