Most power in a game: Multiclassing?

Note that in 3.5e, apparently Greater Weapon Focus will require Fighter Level 8, and Greater Weapon Specialization will require Fighter Level 12.

Eh. It's +1 to hit, +2 to damage -- nothing to sneer at, but probably not worth sticking to the class for another 8 levels beyond what you ordinarily would.

Really? I would have thought your XP penalty would have been bad enough already.

Nope. That group had only two houserules: One of them was: No PrCs, no multiclass penalties.

About the Fighter5/Cleric1: I don't like to take already cast spells with a short duration into account when I compare two such dudes... That multiclass guy against a Ftr6 will probably be better with Divine Favour and Magic Weapon and Bless cast, but how often will he get hit while casting these spells??

Personally, I think the Fighter 5 / Cleric 1 will be more powerful in most situations.

The costs:
  • Average of 1 hit point
  • 1 BAB
  • 1/2 a feat
  • teased about height, now that he is down 6" :)

The benefits:
  • Access to two different clerical domains
  • Access to clerical spells
  • Ability to turn undead. If the character has a good charisma, this allows access to the 'divine' feats from Defenders of the Faith.
  • Ability to use any clerical wand/staff and can attempt to use clerical scrolls.

I wouldn't take this any further than Cleric 4, but it can be a good combination. The loss of 4 hit points and 2 feats can be well worth the additional spells.

3 levels of cleric or rogue are nearly always worth it for the fighter types (bbn, ftr, pal, rgr). Even 3 levels of bard might be interesting. But as someone has already written in a much better summary: Multiclassing is good for fightertypes and bad for spellcasters.

It looks nice on paper. But the bbn1/clr3 in my group already considers himself inferior to the lvl4 cleric. He may fight a little bit better...
