MOUNTAIN ORKS
Mountain Orks ( Orks not being a misspelling for this campaign setting ) are only found in the Midden Alps region of the known world. Millenia of warfare with humanity and amongst themselves has brought the species to the edge of extinction, and has confined them to the Midden Alps region.
Mountain Orks are smarter, and better organized than the standard fantasy world Orcs that are common in other settings. Community alignments are mostly Lawful Evil. They engage in trade ( with a small, but growing mercantile class ), and are decent miners.
Mountain Orks may choose the following classes:
Barbarian, Sorceror, Cleric, Warrior, and Bard
Rolling up a Mountain Ork PC:
Str 12+ d8 Dex max 18 Con 11 + d8 Int max 15 Wis 4d6-lowest Cha max 16
Mountain Ork cultural notes:
It is taboo to eat an enemy that was slain in battle. It's acceptable to eat women and children though. Mountain Orks believe that the spirit of their enemy, if a warrior, will haunt them and bring about misfortune in future battles if eaten.
Spitting at anothers feet is a sign of respect, spitting on another from the chest down is a sign of great respect. Spitting in the face is a challenge to combat.
Mountain Orks are survivalists. Their culture is centered around survival and the continuation of the species. Their communities are structured and organized to better the chances of survival, and it is every Orks responsibility to contribute. Those that cannot contribute are cast out into the wilderness or slain. Communities are ruled by " Kings " or " Overlords " that are regulated by the priests ( Who are bound to serve the best interest of the people, even if the people don't always see the wisdom of their decisions. )
Orks will not commit suicide, or willingly shed their own blood, for any reason, no matter how small the amount ( Not even a prick of the finger ).
Some Orkish Phrases and Words:
Well Fed: ( A mountain ork term that means mighty, strong, powerful, etc..The strongest, meanest, and most powerful usually get the most food. )
You smell of elves and flowers!!: A very very bad insult amongst Mountain Orks.
Argan Haffak': Passage of Adulthood at 10 years of age
Urt : Savior. A Mountain Ork prophecy about a messiah of sorts that will rise from one of the tribes and lead the worthy to new lands in the west, across the Great Sea.
Thrax: Time of the Fallen Sky. The Ork name for the Great War/Cataclysm.
Ur 'Kebbak : Right of Removal . A ritual for the removal of a sitting ruler or priest. A priest witnesses the declaration by the challenging Ork to the defender. Once the declaration is made, the challenger is not to be harmed until the right of removal ritual is carried out that spring.
So how is your blood?: Basically " How are you? " It inquires as to ones fitness, strength, and status in the community.
Softskulls: Humans
THE LEGEND OF THE GREAT ONE TO COME
The Prophecy of the coming of the Urt
** Every male Mountain Ork was told this tale every year until the Argan Haffak' ( Passage of Adulthood at 10 years of age ) **
When the firey mountain of the Great One is violated by the evil soft skulls of the north, and our people are near extinction, the mountain of fire will burn . There will be no sign of the Great One during that time. Upon the appearance of the third moon, the great mountain will cease burning, and the Great One will summon the faithful to him. The Great One will be challenged by the " Urt " ( Savior ). The Urt is to be a son of the Longtooth Clan. The Urt will defeat the Great One and take his place.
The Urt, the new Great One will not continue to dwell in the mountain of fire. Being wise and well fed, and knowing that the soft skulls have won the ancient struggle, he will take his people across the Great Western Sea to a new land. A land that is free of the pale soft skulls, a land that is warm and fertile. Many will seek to stop the Urt, namely the brothers of the soft skulls, the abandoned brothers of ages past that seek vengeance upon their kin. This is the prophecy. This is what I have seen.
