Mounted Combat Questions

Big Bad Bob

First Post
The paladin in our group recently acquired a unicorn mount. All sort of fun questions have come up since then. The main questions deeal with the mount attacking. I know that a ride check DC 10 allows a rider to attack normally even if a mount attacks. So...

Can a paladin take other actions and still have the unicorn attack? Can a paladin use her lay on of hands ability while her unicorn attacks?

When a paladin charges, can she opt to use the unicorn's horn instead of her attack? Can she use both?

What about grappling? How do you grapple someone on a mount?

If a paladin riding a unicorn attacks a 35 ft. tall earth elemental, does she get a bonus for being on higher ground?

1) Yes the paladin can perform other actions while the Unicorn attacks

2) The Unicorn would be the one charging since it is attacking, but yes it's allowed.

3) The opponet would either grabble the Unicorn or the Paladin. It's very likely the other one would get an AoO as well.

4) It's best judgement on this one, but in the case of a 35ft high creature, the paladin does not get a bonus for higher ground.

I haven't seen Dragon #304 yet, but I'm told that there is a section that covers intelligent mounts and many of the questions about skills, attacks and AC that often come up in association with them.

Anyone out there see the article yet?
