movie music

The soundtrack to Apollo 13 is a great one - too bad it's not the one you get on the CD, which is mixed with a bunch of the pop music from the movie. The real soundtrack is hidden as an easter egg (kind of) on the DVD.

I own a number of movie soundtracks - the Star Wars original trilogy box set is a good one. The TPM soundtrack was pretty good, though not, IMO up to where any of the orginal three were - "Duel of the Fates" is most cool. I thought the AotC soundtrack was damn weak.

I adore the Superman sountrack, though, like Star Wars, it's almost unusable for gaming, IMO, because it's so recognizable. I believe this to be one of the 5 best movie soundtracks of all time.

My favorite Star Trek soundtrack is from the original film. That contains the Kilingon theme and several other good bits. Treks II and VI also have good soundtracks.

I've used the Conan sountrack a number of times for gaming. Another great cut is "The Orgy," which nobody's mentioned yet. I also love "Theology/Civilization." Hell, the whole soundtrack is awesome.

The Starship Troopers sountrack, while not uniformly excellent, has some good cuts on it.

One day, I swear, I'm going to run a 70's Blacksploitation one-shot and use the Shaft soundtrack (which is fantastic) as background music.

I love Queen but loathe the Highlander and Flash Gordon soundtracks. And I hate Danny Elfman.

I never cared for the Flash Gordon soundtrack, but how could you not like the Highlander score? Princes of the Universe. A Kind of Magic. Who Wants to Live Forever. Classic Queen!:D

Yeah, the new soundtracks have definitely not captured the magic the original pieces did, except for Duel of the Fates. Everytime I hear that I wanna bust out a lightsaber and whoop some Sith ass. The only part of the AotC soundtrack I really liked was when Anakin was off to rescue his mother and parts of Duel of the Fates was woven into the music. That was awesome.

Let me clarify - I didn't like it as a soundtrack. It's perfectly good Queen music. :)

Carl Orf :)

The movie "Excalibur"s use of the Carmina Burana was very memorable and on the spot.

I'm glad someone mentioned Carl Orf. I love his stuff. :)

I'm also a fan of the FotR and TTT soundtracks, although I like the TTT soundtrack better (specifically the "Rohan" themes).

Hrmm... going to have to check out the Conan soundtrack. I'm actually not familiar with that one *ducks*

And Danny Elfman is also one of my favorites. I even like some of the Star Wars music although I don't particularly care for the movies. :p

EDIT: ofr != for

Everyone has named pretty much all of my favorites: LotR, LotR:TTT, The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, Bram Stoker's Dracula, etc. There is one that I haven't seen anyone mention that is truly a great soundtrack: The Icewind Dale soundtrack. You can get it in the Collector's Edition and it is quite nice. Anyone else played and/or heard Icewind Dale I?

I haven't heard the soundtrack outside of the game itself, but I remember really enjoying it while I played it.

It's not a soundtrack, obviously, but in Platoon when they play Barber's Adagio for Strings when they leave that guy behind to die, wow, that's perfect use of music.

as for the two LOTR soundtracks I prefer Fellowship, I think it's the happy hobbit music theme that I prefer to the Rohan theme.
