I like the formality whereby y'all are referred to as Mr., like the style guide that used to make the New York Times' arts section talk about an Iggy Pop concert in funny ways: "Mr. Pop slashed his chest with razorblades while staggering about the stage..."

There is also a rumor going around that I am a certified Army sniper. This is untrue.

During my brief stint at West Point in 1986 I did qualify as "sharpshooter" on the Known Distance Range. But that's just a label they gave out for different levels of performance (you might be an Expert or a Marksman or a Sharpshooter depending on how well you did). I only shot targets, and only that summer.

No on the moon landing rumor.

I know where the sniper rumor came from, but I can only guess at the source of the WoW rumor. Perhaps a student saw EN World or my name there and also saw a WoW banner ad and assumed they were connected in some way.
