Multiclass questions

Hello all,

If I take 3 levels of Rogue then 4 levels of Fighter, this is what I will get ?

BAB will be +6/+1
Fort Save: +5
Ref Save: +4
Will Save: +2

I can only spend Fighter skill points on Rogue skills if both class have the skill. If not it's a cross-class skill (except exclusive skills). Is that right ?

Thanks !

Quick clarification please.

My understanding from reading PHB is that it says effectively "A skill is considered a class skill so long as at least one of the character's classes has that skill as a class skill".

I don't have my PHB on me to confirm but I recently came across this issue for my multiclass character...

We do however house rule it by saying that while this would allow max ranks in the skills to be 3 + CL regardless of whether the current class has it as a class skill or not, the cost of ranks when bought on a level where the skill is not a class skill is at the cost of a cross class skill.

Just looking to clarify because I am sure PHB would allow you to say it's a class skill if it's on one of your classes skill list.

Oh and I am new to the forum so hello and hopefully I won't embarass myself by asking too many silly questions. ;)

Thank you for your replies in advance... muchly appreciated.

Your house rule is not a house rule at all...it is how the core rules work. Class and XClass skills are Character Level+3 max rank. Exclusive skills though, are Class Level +3 max rank. A Fighter/Rogue who levels up as a Fighter cannot purchase ranks of Use Magic Device, and must use XClass skill points to purchase ranks of Tumble...etc.

Still confused.

Maybe I shouldn't have put the house rule stuff in there... I think it hid my real question there.

First I'll give an example. I have a Ranger/Cleric character. Move Silently, as an example, is a class skill for the Ranger but not the Cleric. Now the original poster was implying that if when levelling as a Cleric I took Move Silently as a skill it would be considered a cross class skill since it is not on the Cleric class skill set.

My question revolves around the section of the PHB that states something to the effect of "a skill is considered a class skill if the skill is on at least one of the character's classes skill set". If that is the case shouldn't Move Silently be considered a class skill as it is on the character's Ranger skill set?

I was seeking clarification on that point rather than the feedback on the house rule issue... in fact re-reading my house rule explanation it doesn't make sense nor does it say what I want to say so forget it's even there

Sorry for the confusion :( :o

eeeeeek ... um I'll try to help, but my eyes and brain went wonky after reading that ;)

anyway, yes it still is a class skill ... the catch is that when you spend skill points from a class that does not have it as a class skill (e.g. your cleric) then you have to spend those points as cross-class skill points (2 for 1).

The skill is considered a class skill for purposes of maximum ranks, but a cross-class skill for purposes of cost. For example, consider a first-level rogue who maxes out his Move Silently skill (4 ranks). If he takes his second level in cleric, his max ranks in Move Silently is now 5 ranks (level +3, not divided by two), but it will cost him two skill points to get that rank ...

Excellent, as I said even after I re-read what I wrote it made no sense... nor did it explain it how I wanted to... silly me.

But Christian has described it exactly as we play it and what I was attempting to define in the house rule bit... except it's apparently not a house rule.

Thanks for clarifying it, it seems I was right after all... even though you really can't see that from looking at my posts :p
