Multiple round attack spell?

@ Airwalkrr: I haven't run into too many DMs who are big fans of creating new spells ... or else, this would indeed be the fun way to solve this problem.

Herzog: This may not be what you need, but Shard Storm in SpC creates a burst of force energy (in the shape of sharp, pointy crystals) within a burst that repeats its damage each round. I believe it's 3d6 force damage. You can suppress the burst as a free action each round, but if you don't, it hits that exact same area each turn for 3d6 damage -- great for monsters under the effects of hold monster, or Evard's, or ...

Arcane Fusion (only if you're a Sorcerer) allows you to cast a level 4 (or lower) and a level 1 spell for the cost of 1 standard action and as your 5th level slot. There are a rather large number of combinations for that ...

Whirling Blade (Sor/Wiz 2) doesn't let you attack multiple TIMES, but it attempts a basic attack roll against every enemy in a 60' line, so ... it could hit multiple people.

Even better than Persistent Blade is Sword of Deception (Sor/Wiz 4) from SpC, which will impose upon those it hits a penalty to that creature's next saving throw. The problem with Sword & Blade are that they will likely die if they attempt to strike a creature with Spell Resistance ...

Manyjaws is up to 3 rounds of damage if you concentrate on it, without the movement restrictions of flaming sphere type spells.

A simple level 1 Corrosive Grasp spell is up to 10 touch attacks for 1d8 acid damage each. Thunderhead also is level 1 and lasts for round/level, but it's not worth casting for damage (I'd use it more for the "homing beacon" effect if the enemy goes invisible or the like).

Thunderlance lasts round/level. Blade of Pain and Fear does, too, though I forget off-hand if that's an arcane spell. I like to use it with Clerics, since they have decent BAB.

All in Spell Compendium. Were any of these the kinds of spells you had in mind?

As far as a dancing blade goes, if there's no spell in spell compendium for it, I'm pretty sure C.Mage had a spell like that. Pretty sure there was one in SpC, though, around spell level 6.

1st level druid spell produce flame seems to be the type fo thing yo want.

Try to research a wizard version, add a level to make it a 2nd level spell and it would seem perfectly fair to me.

You know that wands are real useful for this sort of thing too.

Legion of Sentinels from Players Handbook II.

Sorc/Wiz 3, conjurs 12 incorporeal swordsmen with AC 25 and attack bonus = Caster Level. Damge is 1d8+(1/3CasterLevel) per attack per swordsman.

Duration is 1round/lvl.

It's pretty keen combined with, say, solid fog.
