Mundane stuff in my rogue's bag of goodies

A piece of Lamb's wool and a piece of amber, to generate static electricity, which can be used to start a fire. Another ancient way of generating an electrical charge is 2 different metals seperated by paper/parchment and some acidic fruit juice. Weak batteries were used like that for electroplating jewelry with gold...usually for scamming people.

A magnifying lens. Depending on your financial status, it may be made of calcite, glass, optical quartz, or sapphire, in increasing levels of hardness. Glass, however, is more brittle than calcite.

A small diamond may be used to mark just about anything. Remember, diamonds are brittle, so may break if used to do this too often.

A lute or other stringed instrument & replacement strings. The lute is fun, and the strings can be made into a garotte (yes, even non-metallic ones). Strings NEVER get confiscated.

A flute. If the holes are plugged, it can be used as a breathing pipe. Ditto parchment carrying tubes, wooden scabbards, etc.

Ink. Can be used to mark or blacken something (possibly for longer than you want, but hey...). Certain kinds of squid ink are used as seasoning.

On a tangential note, may I suggest nuts and honey in your rations. Nuts are full of nutrients in a small package and last a long time without spoiling. Honey is the same, and, as I recall, has antibacterial and antifungal attributes. A vial of that could prove invaluable.

A glass eye (the possibilities for mischief are endless!).

An extraordinarily lurid love letter (oooh -alliteration!), neither the author nor receiver of which is your character.

A small telescope.

A sketchbook and something with which to sketch.
