Yup. I'm watching, and I agree it's different from the novels, but I am still enjoying it. I would say it's more comedy that the novels -
not quite Red Dwarf or Hitchhiker, but leaning that way. The novels, aside from the attitude of the narrator, are written seriously.

Really, I found them quite humorous, if perhaps deadpan...?

Show looks good, but alas I don't have Apple TV.
 

I'm not so sure it's all that different from the novellas. I think it's emphasizing the SecUnit's inner monologue more than the action and, I suspect, while reading we tended to emphasize the action over the monologue. And that gives us a different impression. But having read further into the series after seeing the first couple of episodes, I'm primed to see that juxtaposition between the wry monologue and the serious action. The TV series now feels right in line with the tone of the books, at least it does to me.
