If you don't want to go crazy exotic, try the 'Auld Lang Syne' recording by The Cast. It's on YouTube, of course and also the Sex and the City soundtrack. The melody is familiar, but the accent gives it a foreign sound that I think would play well here.

My vote goes to Tori Amos - The Pool.

When I first heard the piece I immediately though of its uses for roleplaying... It doesn't use any instruments as far as I can tell; I think it's just composed of haunting voices.
