D&D 5E Mutants in DND!

Ok, not really, but no one I play with is really into 5E sorcerers because we do a pretty good mix of combat/out of combat and the few sorcs we tried felt pretty useless half the time. That being said, I decided since all the Sorcs were going to be NPC's to have some fun and design them more along the lines of mutants a la X-men. Worked out pretty well, had some fun. Then I started making the actual comic book guys in DND terms to see how long it took my players to realize who they were fighting. Was so much fun I will be doing more. Clearly I've been watching a certain movie too much lately.

Deadpool - Revenant with levels in Ranger and Rogue. Dual wield with sharpshooter of course.

Colossus - Pretty straightforward, Iron Golem, no sword or poison breath, and a big heart :)

I am definitely going to have a group of low level mutants, young kids in town with random powers that start manifesting, and have the team Warlock who wants to build a stronghold scoop them up and start training them if he wants. It's been fun, just wanted to share.

Next up, going to have Githyanki psychic warriors from the astral meet up with the heavily armed warriors and stealthy rogues of the human team face off against my "Queen of Bones", a pumped up Erinyes who is a demi power leading hordes of bone devils, see how long it takes them to notice I'm ripping off another franchise and we're playing D20 Starcraft :)

Yeah, Sorcerors are basically D&D mutants, although there is spellfire/spellscarred as well in previous editions.

Still D&D is not good at recreating comic book mutants, because most mutants focus on a small (often 1 power), where as D&D characters don't.

There are exceptions, The Scarlet Witch, Dr. Strange, Thor, maybe Nightcrawler, ect....

Now if one makes custom subclasses for Rogue, Fighter, and Barbarian, where the subclass imputs the special power, that could work.

I'm thinking of doing a thread of ready made Sorcerors for people to use, Sorcerors who are compelling in combat and out of it.

Um, Dr. Strange and Thor aren't mutants.
