4 out of 5 rating for Mutants & Masterminds Deluxe Hero's Handbook

I'm a sucker for superheroes. M&M came onto the scene about 15 years ago, and has pretty much dominated the superhero landscape ever since. Over the years, it has diverged from its d20 roots, while maintaining the level of crunchiness and tinker-ability of that system. Add to that great superhero art, and plenty of support, it's hard to go wrong with this. Author Steve Kenson has firmly established himself as the superhero RPG writer of the last two decades.

5 out of 5 rating for Mutants & Masterminds Deluxe Hero's Handbook

Mutants and Masterminds fills a sweet spot in superhero gaming. It's just complicated to scratch some of the power-gaming / careful calculation itch that Champions scratched so well, but heroic enough to emulate some of the best of the flexibility that comes with 80s style DC Heroes Hero Point / Marvel Super Heroes Karma options. My longest running campaign in the past 15 years was an M&M campaign with grad students and young professionals, and I currently run a game for my sons, aged 8-13, and I love the flexibility of the game. It's not a perfect game, but it's a great game. The Deluxe Edition may really only appeal to players familiar with all three editions, because most of the added material deals with the history of the game and how it developed since its launch in 2002.

M&M is the best super game going right now. I was a very long time Champions player but this system won me over. I really liked Champions but it was to rules heavy for my taste. This system is everything Champions was but it can be played quickly. P.S. Also something that won me over extra effort. It allows you to do all those crazy things you see characters do in the comics it's to good.

Sure, it isn't ultra crunchy as Champions, but it still has meaningful huge numbers that successfully distinguish characters in a superhero comicverse. And it also has a pickup and play character generator, what's not to love? It's good in what it aspired to be, so I give it the highest rating.
