Mutants & Masterminds: Question about power stunts and extra's

Oh, sorry, I forgot that Trip was homebrewed. I essentially took the "Airblast" or whatever Extra from some other power, that essentially lets you knock people over, and said, "Bam, now it's Trip!" Or I took "Slick" with radically different flavor-text. "Yes, it's a power that makes you make a Reflex save or be Prone."

I'd imagined it as a 2pp/level power, Flawed to 1 because of the Device flaw (used as a weapon) and probably a 1-point-power anyway because it's less useful than Slick is already. It's Slick with a couple of Flaws on it. :)

We're sorta flying half-blind here in Tackyland at the moment. Playing a game with a system not meant to play that kind of game tends to make my examples sort of skew-y. Sorry.

Do you need to make a successful attack roll first, or is it just a reflex save? If you have to make an attack, it's weak enough that it could be a 1pp/level power b/c it's a very flawed Slick.

Yeah. In terms of my general party outlook, here's what we've got at the moment:

Serge:
Amazing Saves, Weapon+Telekinesis (knocking opponents back), Super-Senses, Super-Wisdom, Leaping, Arrmor, and Force Field (defensive duelist training). None of these are more than +4 or so.

Rene:
Super-Speed (minus sprinting and mundane task time reduction), Obscure (half power, touch range -- a dueling cloak that lets him hide better and sometimes avoid attacks due to concealment), Assassin's Mind (Invisibility but with a Will save -- it's mental, the ability to walk through a room and have people forget you were there...), Strike+Fatigue (Nerve strikes), and Paralysis (requires a Hero point to activate). Again, none higher than +4 or so.

Kiran:
Super-Int, Weapon+1 with Disarm, Trip, and Snare as Extras (Power Stunted off each other -- one at a time; this is the whip guy), and Swinging for movement. I think he has Super-Dex, too, but am not certain.

Sirius:
Gadgets, Weapon, Energy Field (the character wears an enormous battery and has himself effectively charged for +2S -- and woe unto him the day he steps into a puddle), Slick, Super-Int, and Super-Con -- his character is a defensive science geek who always pulls out just the right crazy gadget whenever needed. He also has a shoulder-mounted crossbow. :)

Alistair: Weapon and Deflection, Super-Charisma with Intimidating Presence, and Mind Control (with the Area extra and the "Only applies to people who would be impressed by his noble rank" flaw) -- he's an aristocratic young nobleman who is darn good at ordering people around, to the point where he can get people to do what he wants a lot of the time.

So right now, that's how I'm trying to break M&M. :)

Oh, yeah. This is the super-swashbuckling campaign, right?

You should post these characters some time. I'd like to have a look at the power builds, and see how you're modifying the MnM engine. I've been tooling around under the hood myself, but at a much higher PL. :)

Yep, swashbucklerific. Far closer to the feel I wanted than d20 Modern was giving me (not a slam on Modern -- I like Modern a lot), except that my heroes are, as a result of their powers, tough enough that a room full of mooks with rifles doesn't threaten them enough -- unless I don't play nice. I keep having to remind them that they should really consider running from some things. :)

Still, that's a small price to pay for letting the chandelier-swinging action be a part of standard movement with no rolls necessary.

And no bonus to Dex-based skill checks. Yeah, I know, who wouldn't want that? But that's what my player wanted. It fit her character concept better, and if a player wants to non-minmax, I'm certainly not going to haggle.

actually, Super-Dex with Running extra and No Skills flaw would end up costing the same number of points, so it's all a wash. :)
