My 7th level party just killed a young adult dragon!

I wonder what new insights into this have been added by the recent Draconomicon for 3rd Edition.

I still think Dragons should not be invulnerable and infallible - especially at so young an age.

I don't think it takes away from the Dragons' fearsomeness - it just postpones its overwhemling force to the older, and presumably wiser, Dragons.

Don't spoil the fun of the players because they're lucky. Lucky rolls are one of the things that make players come back every friday nights to game.

Many years ago in a 2nd edition game, we used the crit tables from Best of Dragon #4 (IIRC).

One of the PC's wanted a scroll of Polymorph Other to add to his spellbook. They figured out they would need money to research the spell, LOTS of it, so they decided to go slay a dragon nearby for his treasure.

As they near the lair, the dragon lurches at them. Since the dragon is some distance away, the rogue thinks "what the heck" and throws his dagger at it. Roll to hit, 20. Roll on crit table, 100. Dead dragon, with a toss of a dagger (I made them roll dex checks to jump out of the incoming dragon carcass...).

They check it's treasure, which I randomly roll on the spot... and in it, they find... a scroll of polymorph other. WITH the rest of the treasure.

That was one lucky evening. We had a blast.

I don't think advising the parties in question will help anymore. This thread became archaelogical over a year ago, and the actual parties involved have long since moved on. The dragon's been dead for over a year now.

Well our DM had used some better Tactics that almost killed me with a Blue Dragon. The setting was in a Desert I learn that Dragons can also Burrow underground considering thats how they build there lairs.The Dragon manage ambush the group with a surpirse attack from underground used sand to blind us The Dragon had every advantage which was the Area setting.Suddenly, friend of mine managed hurt the Dragon useing his Clerical/Palidan/Knight of the Middle ablitys to deal damage to the Dragon but in the end my friend lost his life we manage to kill that Dragon.

Ahhh..... Glory days.

I remember when I killed that dragon with a Greater Spell Focused Polymorph Other. Previous Edition. Ancient history. Character sheet gathering dust.
