My kingdom for a setting

Just to be different...Birthright definitely had a feudal feel to it. I thought the whole Bloodline thing was neat.

Work out what adventures you want to run, then build your setting around them. Setting should be like stage props for the adventures in my opinion, but most people seem to force adventures into the straitjacket of existing setting requirements, thus putting the cart before the horse.

Al, give me three days and I'll see if I can show you a site devoted to a campaign setting I used.

Quick overview:

The Ragesian Empire rules the world, and Draco Coaltongue rules the Ragesian Empire. A hundred years ago, the half-Orc Coaltongue led armies of Orcs and Elves against the human nation that had oppressed them, and within five years, he founded his own Empire. The Ragesian Empire accepted all who opposed the tyranny of the old Seren Empire, and today in the capitol of the Empire, Kequalak City, people of all races are represented, confident that their immortal ruler will protect them from chaos and rebellion.

Diaglo - OD&D -is that some kind of fancy pants city-folk food? :)

I would like to give good old Greyhawk a go, or at least a read. Need to trawl ebay and the nearby second hand game store.

RangerWickett - sounds intriguing. It's certainly got an epic sweep to it. Coaltongue is a great name! Would like to read more - would you mind PM-ing me a link when you've got it up and running?

Going strictly by your criteria, I'm going to revise my previous statemtent.
Valus would be good as well, but I think Eberron woul work perfectly.

It has:
1) Tons of organizations (from noble houses, to insane cults)
2) Religious Knightly Orders
3) Countries controlled by: A LN Hobgoblin Warlord, a trio of powerful Hags, and a sinister group of Rakshasas who have countless demonic henchmen
4) Definitely not low-magic... but not necessarily high magic either
5) Lots of feudal feel with a tinge of pervasive magic.
6) Druidic, nature loving orcs, plus they have their own nation (pretty much)
7) Lots of fairly lawless areas: the goblinoid kingdom of Darguun, the hag-ruled kingdom of Droam, the demon-infested realm of the... Demon Wastes, the idyllic Eldeen Reaches (with lots of druidic politics), the pirate-ruled islands of the Lhazzar Principalities, and the jungle nation of Q'Barra.

Really, lots of stuff fits what you're looking for, now just convince one of your players to run it while you run your campaign. :p

I don't think that Dragonlance would work too well, as outsiders... just really don't fit in that well.
FR might work also.

Sure they do. :) That's what I did in the Dragonlance DM's Screen 32-page booklet - explained how all of the MM core monsters fit into Dragonlance, especially some which you otherwise wouldn't know what to do with.

October 1st sees the release of the War of the Lance campaign sourcebook, which is 320 pages, of which around 90+ of those are detailed geography and regional information. There's an extensive timeline, including a separate historical outline of the war itself, major battles, statistics for almost all of the major (and some minor) characters, unit descriptions for the dragonarmies, Whitestone forces and independents, background material on all of the races, magic items, new spells, feats, new prestige classes, a new core class...

It is huge. Sovereign Press had it on sale at GenCon Indy and Dragon*Con and it's been one of my favorite books to work on so far, especially since I started with Dragonlance back when DL1 and the novels were first released. I think this would suit Inconsequenti-AL's needs perfectly, but then I'm very biased.

Cheers,
Cam

Scarred Lands - will have to have a hack through Ask the Sage and see what I think! Been meaning to do that for some time.
Al,

Don't worry. I'll get a new thread started. You can asked your questions there.

My first instinct is to say Kalamar, but having just finished reading Valus, I think you should give it serious consideration.

I love Scarred Lands, but I think it's about as far from "[Lawful] Running rampant" as one could get.
