My new favorite Star Wars era!

This era intrigues me, but I've never read much of the Expanded Universe. Is this a good place to start, or should I go for some of the earlier right-after-RoJ books?

If anyone knows of a site listing the timeline for the novels, I'd appreciate it.

If you were going to start with the Expanded Universe stuff, I'd definitely start on some of the materials set soon after RotJ. The Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, & The Last Command) set 5 years after RotJ are the novels that really sparked a lot of what we now call the EU, and is a very good place to start (as well as being the first appearance some characters who become very important later on like Mara Jade, and Gilead Pellaeon).

A good general timeline of the Star Wars universe is at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dates_in_Star_Wars, an exhaustive (but slightly outdated) one is at http://www.theforce.net/timetales/, and the official book on the subject is the Star Wars: The New Essential Chronology, which is pretty generally comprehensive. As for the timeline of just the novels, many novels have that printed on the inside as an appendix actually.

If you want to hop into the Legacy series, you don't need to know anything of the Expanded Universe, since it's set so much into the future.

If you want to experience more Expanded Universe, you'd do well to start with what sparked the Expanded Universe in the first place: the Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn, as mentioned by wingsandsword. It's still the best non-movie expansion of Star Wars, and far better than the Prequel Trilogy, IMHO.

The legacy comcis are great,,,Just got issue three in the mail. Artwork is superb but the Covers are to die for. Great read...definately pick them up if you haven't already.

I sense some shocking secret about Darth Krayt, and the fact that he's NOT omnipotent (as seen in issue 1) adds more depth to the character.

After all, this series is being written by John Ostrander, who had a stellar run on DC's Suicide Squad. So he writes bad guys really well, and three-dimensional.

I also like the fact that Cade is VERY Flawed. It is much like being in a cop family and then joining the mob. You have this long family tradition that you are ignoring...but it nags at you...

Good stuff..

Walt
