My players need a name - YOU can help!

Holy Bovine

First Post
I've been wanting my group to get a name for their little adventuring band for a while now but noone seems to have any good ones that really describe the group.

I'm the DM and we play a Scarred Lands setting. SO far int he Scarred Lands they have travelled to Khirdet and defeated many evil Druids, a very powerful Dragon, a Demon, the Queen of the Druids, Sharliss (or so they believe ;) ) and stopped the Titianess, Mormo from being able to reconstitute herself upon Scarn again (at least for now).

They have also defeated a large band of Hill Giants, attacked (but were driven out) of a nest of Yuan Ti and discovered a hidden tomb that contained the remains of a powerful High Gorgon/Sorceror that they both (accidentally) raised and defeated.

They have had other encounters and such but these are really the main highlights of the recent past. Anyone have a few suggestions what they could call themselves based off this?

Some additonal details- the party is made of 6 'core' and 1 'substitute' members. The 5 core members are

Dorn Cartanvil, Dwarf of Burok Torn, 7th Wizard/6th Loremaster (PrC from the DMG)

Shauna Westoak, Human of the Bridged City, 12th Cleric of Madriel (Goddess of Healing & Mercy)/2nd Contemplative of Madriel (PrC from Defender of the Faith)

Kurash Nordgrim, Dwarf of the Wilds, 9th Barbarian/4th Fighter

Ashton Goodbarrel, Halfling of Ontazeu, 9th Rogue/4th Fighter

Ichijo Jun-Do, Human, 13th Monk of the Silver Twilight

Gabriel Allgoode, Human of Mithril, 11th Paladin/2nd Mithril Knight (a PrC from the Scarred Lands dedicated to Corean, a LG Warrior diety)

the 'Substitute' Character is

Chava, Riencarnated Human now a Tiger, 7th Paladin of Madriel.

So anyone have any ideas for names for this group? A semi-serious tone is usually used for the campaign - I try to use horrible situations to play up how rare and special the humourous ones are. Any help is appreciated.

naming parties is hard. Our 6-year campaign's party name is "The Drunken Blades", mostly for our propensity for getting very drunk (which we haven't done in ages, but the name has stuck). My suggestion would be to go by their personalities more than by their deeds.

Actually Ladyofdragons I was hoping that this would be more of a name that the local populace has given them - they have done great deeds in the eyes of the general public including saving a whole town from the aforementioned hill giant band.

That and stopping the Titianess Mormo from coming back and restarting a war that devestated the enitre world would be the deciding factors in a name moreso than their personalities in public (which tend to be very subdued and quiet)

"Challengers of the F***ing Impossible!" :D

(attribution goes to How to Be a Superhero in 30 Days or Less or Your Money Back!)

But seriously, if you are looking for a name the locals would give the party, I'd venture that they are likely to be seen in the role of "guardians". So I'd call them "The Guardians of [name of region]" or "Guardians of the Peace" since they prevented a war.: D

:D why thank you! I was hoping someone whould see how freaking tough those tasks were ;)

'Guardians' sounds pretty good and they are in a place called Vangrok Vale right now

Sooo.... Guardians of the Vale?

Not bad, not bad at all.

*steeples hooves waiting for more inspiration*

When in doubt, add an adventure hook. Start calling them "Mormo's Undoing". Suddenly all of the titanspawn want to take them down a peg, the good / beneficent gods want to make them a symbol of resistance to the titans, and the evil / jealous gods want to make sure they don't steal credit for what it took the gods themselves to do (can't have people believing mortals can do what gods can do; that might undermine proper worshipfulness).

Well, now that I've substantively contributed to the thread, I feel free to post more silliness inspired by the book I mentioned above (How to Be a Superhero..., which if you have not read and you have the least interest in comic book, you've got to get a copy of. You'll pee yourself laughing. I'm not kidding.)

The above book tells you that when naming yourself as a Superhero, don't include your inherent weakness in your name. The example they site is Vulnerable to Strontium 90 Man.

So by extension, when naming your party, don't include any inherent weakness in your party name. Some examples would include:

The Guardians Who Are Really Rather Lacking In The Ranged Weapon Department

Defenders Against All Who Are Not Damage Resistant Because We Don't Even Have A +1 Dagger

The Knights Who Don't Have A Cleric In The Party

The Crappy Will Save Crew

The Fearsome Foursome Of Elven Wizards With A Combined 14 Hit Points

So tell them to avoid that sort of thing. :D

Call them the Lucky Seven.

That way, if the "sub" character is missing, you can have all sorts of fun when NPC's remark "But there's only six of you..." ;) :D

Ooooo I like this idea. Anything to get them in trouble with even more titanspawn (and insulting the Gods at the same time - that's twice as nice :D)

LOL! That one is more apt than you can know - these guys invariably get into unbelieveable situations that could be avoided with just the simpliest of tricks or subterfuge and always seem to come out on top congratualting themselves on their 'brilliant' tactics.

why not let them name themselves- it would be fun to see what they agree on...

Well we've been doing this campaign since before 3E came out (it was briefly a 2E AD&D game) and the players have said (and I have echoed) that their group needs a name - nothing has come of it in all that time so I figured I might step in. I wouldn't saddle them with anything silly. Honest :D
