But don't you read that to mean different sources such as curse vs. Amulet of False life? Or does it define sources anywhere?

Otherwise, the most my warlock could ever have at 1st level is 4.

Don't go into melee with all those temp HP. But don't stand in the back, safe and sound, either. You want to be on the side of the battle to make yourself a tempting target for ranged attackers or so you can draw off a melee guy. You also get your Prime Shot bonus more often fighting like that. Just make sure you can disengage if a melee enemy attacks you.

Basically, you do want to be firing your ranged powers. But shooting from the safest position will waste your temp HP and Prime Shot.

I'd love to get a source or confirmation on that---because the rule looks fairly clear as-is.

No, WotC's confirmed that you go by the POWER. Thus, the HP's from the curse all stack. They won't stack with the temp HP's you'd get from the vampiric thing, though. That would be a different power.

This ability is what makes the hexhammer gish such a viable build--dwarf, increase his armor, get the weapon proficiencies, and after you'd killed a few folks, walk into melee with your cold aura up and start bonking monsters on the head.

My calculations regarding the Hexhammer Gish don't require temp HP stacking -- the real juice is when you enter Iron Vanguard and get both healing AND temporary HP when you drop a foe.

A source would certainly help your argument.

However, I still think this is not the case. If it were, the Paladin's at-will essentially give him unlimited temp HP that he can just stack insanely high.

I'm uncomfortable with allowing temporary hp to stack ad infinitum. I don't have the rules in front of me, but it seemed pretty clear that the highest value supercedes any other sources of Temp HP. Guess it's not as clear as I thought.

I'm going to stick with my interpretation for now, though.

If one reading of the rules results in OMG what a cool overpowering thing I can do and a different reading doesn't, I tend to read the non-overpowering version as correct. Wow, I can stack unlimited temporary hit points sure seems to qualify as the first case.
