Mystara and outsiders

You should post your inquiry over on The Piazza. A multi-setting forum founded by Mystara-forum exiles when WotC's forum rulers decided all out-of-print settings would be better served by getting dumped all into the same forum. Mystara discussions are heaviest over there, but they welcome all fans of every out of print world.

Equally, they are friendly to various rules systems.

I have been a fan of Mystara's unique cosmology, and I have imported it into nearly every homebrew campaign. I've been very interested in blending Fantast Craft's "Paths and Alignments" with Mystara's cosmology ever since I bought FC.

I was musing on a Fantasy Craft game based on Mystara. One thing I noticed was that in BECMI, there are no demon summoning spells, and little in the way of what you would consider AD&D style demons. That led me to Google "mystara and baator" which produced some very peculier results, like encounter tables for other planets (Mytara's star system has planets you can visit???) that included baatezu (Mystara has baatezu???). After finding nothing illuminating on Mystara web sites about the topic, I thought I would just come here looking for answers.

[dramatic]And yet, I leave with more questions than when I began.[/dramatic]

Well, what you're finding on the web is fan material. Which is cool, but that shouldn't throw you for too much of a loop. It's been a while since I followed it, but the online Mystara fan community is pretty creative and has come up with all sorts of stuff that was never published by TSR or WotC.

Demons were presented in the BECMI material as monsters to slay. So, no, you wouldn't find any demon-summoning spells. No reason not to use them if you wanted to, of course.

The cosmology of Mystara's "solar system" was introduced in TSR product at some point, with not much more than names of planets and such. It is roughly based on our own solar system, with an analog for each of our own real nine planets. The asteroid belt is replaced by a doomed planet called Damocles, which it is hinted will someday form an asteroid belt! Mystara itself has two moons . . . one of which is invisible! Some of the Mystara fans took what little info was published and went all crazy with it (in a good way).

Thanks for the tip. I have registered. One of the things that has always appealed to me about the Mystara is the lack of Dantean morality.
