D&D 5E N00b

And I FIFY :)

On a more helpful note, does OSR have issues with buff spells stacking?

Nope. Balance is for n00bs. :p

That said (and I understand your intent), yeah, concentration would probably be a better balancing mechanic than the hodge-podge ones earlier D&D used (aging, system shocks, certain stacking issues, etc).

Legendary and Lair Actions can be used for ANY edition of D&D. Personally, I want to see a subclass of these evolve: Boss Actions, that can be used for low and mid-level monsters, not just high end beholders and dragons and such.

Interesting idea.

Playing devil's advocate, wouldn't that lessen the impact that such unique actions give high level "legendary" monsters?

Nah, I figure d-glo has been griping since D&D (Revised) and AD&D came out in '77. As they are not the One True D&D (1974).

they stopped print for OD&D in 1979. but yeah, i have been or actually now was trying to get it back in print since then. i did succeed. patience is a virtue. and this mofo practices it. :D

Since it is out of print again, I guess you let up to soon! And they didn't reprint Chainmail!

I've also been looking for things I can poach from 5e. While I'll wait till the DMG comes out to make any final decisions, these are a few things I've seen so far that look potentially useful:

- advantage / disadvantage could be a very elegant mechanic for certain situations (though 5e overdoes it)
- the background and trait bits they've put into character generation could be excellent, and tweakable for each campaign or setting
- the MM has a nice assortment of monsters from all the various editions compiled into one place (one can never have enough monsters) :)
- if you don't already have one, the equipment list in the PH is reasonably comprehensive, and I quite like the adventuring kits they've come up with for those who don't want to bother working out each item carried (speeds up char-gen a lot).

I'm waiting for the DMG to see whether there's anything to the rumours of a spell point option, as I'd really like to see what they do with it.

i'm not sure about OSR. i don't do more than convert it to OD&D(1974). but as for stacking you really have to work out mechanics for each and apply them as the campaign demands.
