I'd like to say that the narration at my table would be a thing of beauty, causing the players to weep and wish they could never wash their ears again for fear of losing the perfection of the spoken words.

But, let's be honest here, for me 9 times out of 10 it's going to be, "You take 3 damage."

But, let's be honest here, for me 9 times out of 10 it's going to be, "You take 3 damage."

Well, yeah. If you narrated every hit then the more impactful moments would, well, lose impact. I save narration for big effects. Like the NPC ranger that was aiding the party scoring a crit with Multishot against the ogre leader that killed his brethren. "At sight of the monstrosity before you the ranger grabs two arrows at once and takes aim for the ogre's head. 'You sick son of a b****!' The arrows fly true, penetrating the ogre's skull through each eye socket, cutting short the sadistic ogre's taunts."
