NC Game Day XIV (September 22): Cuz' GenCon Just Wasn't Enough!

Well it seems that a couple of folks aren't going to make it and have thus dropped from my KAMB game. I'm opening those two slots if anybody is interested.

Are you kidding me? That last slot is gone...

...to me, that is!

Edit: And, yes, no offense is intended or should be construed by Belen. My thinking was simply that I "sorta" played the Betrayal game (without the aforementioned betrayal, of course) when Alenda ran it during your illness. And Kobolds. They figured pretty heavily into my jumping ship, too.

Just in case, I've registered for Alenda's game, as well. So, Alenda, it's nothing personal... but, if I the Dread game doesn't run too long, I'll be un-registering.

But I intentionally did not register for your game because Kennon and I are hoping you'll run it at GenCon and we'd like to play it together. :)

This is totally confusing.

Characters

Betrayal at the House on the Hill

You have each been invited by Dorian Greyhaven to attend a get together in honor of the Band of the Red Eagle. Dorian adventured with your parents and is well known for his deeds with the Band and his service to Pelor. His note indicates that he wishes to talk to each of you regarding your parents and pay his respects to their memory by gifting you with mementos from their adventuring days. Intrigued, you journey to his home hoping to learn the mystery of the Band of the Red Eagle, a group that your parents barely mentioned.

Characters

Suzette Thorn (Bard)
Suzette grew up on the streets of Waterford, a small port city on the coast of Old Tares. She never knew her parents as they died in a fire when she was 2. The inn that they had purchased in their retirement was consumed completely, leaving Suzette with nothing other than her name and the legacy of the Red Eagles. Suzette was lucky in that she was protected by a homeless man called Fallen. Fallen recognized her stunning voice early in her childhood and encouraged her to sing for her meals. She became quite adept at this and soon earned enough to provide for a drafty shack on the edge of town. Not long after she turned 14, Fallen died in a knife fight and she fled Waterford, narrowly escaping a group of “fans” who wanted more than a simple song.

The summons from Dorian Greyhaven was met with shock on her part and she quickly turned her attention to it wondering if she would finally learn about her past.

Jermayan Velenor (Ranger)
The Band of the Red Eagle was never a myth to Jermayan. He had met all of them, albeit briefly whenever his father had chosen to make an appearance. When the Band disbanded, his father disappeared with only a cryptic note about seeking further fortune. Jermayan had hated his father for his constant travels and the fame of the Red Eagle only made him angrier as many expected the same behavior from him. The summons from Dorian was almost left unopened, yet the failure of his father to appear caused enough curiosity for him to want to find out what Dorian may know. Maybe he would finally have the truth.

Tobias Moon (Fighter)
Tobias never wanted to be a farmer. He hated farming and had no idea why his wandering druidic parents had settled on one piece of land in a remote part of Old Tares. He knew the stories about the Band of the Red Eagle, yet he could never understand why such famous people would have settled down. He had been very angry with his parents for much of his adolescence, thus, he had not been around when a large warband pillaged his home and butchered his family. He had vowed vengeance and even tracked down most of them. He wielded a quarterstaff to honor the memory of his family and fought hard against those who would kill the innocent. The summons almost never arrived as he had come upon the corpses of a raided caravan and only discovered it by accident. Still, he had never met Dorian and maybe he could find out if that warband had been old enemies of the Band.

Jacob Nightfall (Cleric)
Jacob grew up in the church of Kord after his father perished in a fire. He knew his father had been famous and a devout follower of Kord, but was too young to remember him. The priests raised Jacob to follow in his father’s footsteps and he had already made a minor name for himself while defending his home town against a massive orc raid. The summons by Dorian came as a shock, although Jacob is eager to learn more about his father from someone who knew him well.

Bedwyr Deathhammer (Barbarian)
Bedwyr was not a happy dwarf; even other dwarves complained that he was the epitome of dwarven surliness. Of course, Bedwyr was just not good with people and was known to being quick to anger. He had been that way even since his father was found dead in the clanhall. He had forsaken his training in the ways of the Dwarven Highfather and turned his attention to killing, afterall, his father had been very good at fighting. The summons was welcome as he wanted to travel more and maybe even find some evil creatures to kill on the way.

Kristen Vocaine (Rogue)
Kristen was a sultry, seductive woman who loved the sea. She was raised on a merchant ship and had traveled the whole of the Azure Sea. He mother had been a crafty diplomat with more than a few tricks to help her in the trade. When she was younger, she had even shown Kristen a few of those tricks. Kristen still regretted that she had not been aboard when the pirates had killed and burned the Dagger Maiden. She was sure that she could have saved her mother’s life and the guilt often woke her at night. The summons would at least allow her to learn more about the past. He mother never spoke of the Band of the Red Eagle. It was about time to discover why.

I thought so, too, but it wasn't directed to me, so I wasn't going to say anything.

She is still signed up for 2 games in the morning, and I've been watching for that situation to change. Because depending on which one she gives up, it will either mean that there is a slot for someone else to play in Alenda's game (which I am in, and am therefore interested in), or that there will be two lovely ladies at the same gaming table with me - a situation that I am not wholly unaccustomed to, but one has usually been my daughter, so that isn't the same at all. :D ;)

Hey Belen, can one pick from the pre-gens? Bedwyr, Toby and Jacob seem like great fun to me. I guess I'd go that order too.

If you have a system then no problem but upon reading about the characters I just figured I'd cast my vote for Capt. Surlypants

Well, cool. 'Cause no offense intended to Belen, but that's what Mark (Oncarou) wanted to play in to begin with. :)

Torm, are there any other guidelines for character creation? Will you wait until the GameDay to review them?

Just last night, in fact, I added a thread to the forum on the gameday site that said you can ask any character creation questions either there, or here - by post, or by PM.

I'm not going to be really picky, but I do think that I would have to scrutinize anything from Savage Species - that book is messed up. :)

Bump for one work week away, and

To state the obvious: The website for the Gameday has been down for a couple of days.

And the would-be obvious if not for the other: Oncarou has no sign-ups for Star Wars, and is therefore canelling it to play in Henry's game, and, I now have an open slot again in my game.

(The other person who was coming with us, Oniyagi, who was signed up for both games, has bailed.)
