Necromancer Games Book of Taverns Preview

Mindcrime

First Post
There's a cover a preview of Book of Taverns up over at the Necromancer site. The cover also acts a bit like a Tome of Horrors preview in that the beastie "interacting" with the patrons pictured is one of Scott's from his book.

Also posted on the Necro forums is the book's table of contents:

1. Introduction
2. The Trireme
3. The Witch's Teat
4. The Quintain's Tower
5. The Horse Lord
6. Vain Robert's Gibbet
7. The Lion Rampant
8. Death & Taxes
9. Malachai's Public House
10. The Dagger and Rose
11. The Four Winds

The cover looks a bit off if this is supposed to be a book about inns and taverns. Great piece mind you but when characters in the bar go to the inns and taverns that isn't quite what they had in mind. :D

Yeah, the book is definitely about taverns and inns. The inn featured on the cover - the Witch's Teat - is very..odd...and there's a reason that ugly S.O.B is there :) I can't say more about that just yet, but it will become very evident in time.

The cover may be a bit misleading on this one (although it looks great). Most of the Taverns have a heavy RolePlaying angle as opposed to RollPlaying. The writing in this book is top notch and, if I may say so, so are the maps :)

Chris - Fantastic work on this. I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed reading each chapter. My personal favorite has to be The Quintain's Tower, followed closely be The Witch's Teat and Vain Robert's Gibbet. Well done.

Cheers - Ed

Actually, it isnt a book ABOUT taverns, it is a book OF taverns. Chris had a great twist on taverns. Normally, they are sort of "scene dressing" to start an adventure. A generic prop. Chris decided "hey, what if we make the tavern the adventure!" Which is exactly what the book is. So, as you see on the cover, it is adventure in a tavern. And I might add that it totally kicks ass.

Infact, just to prove the point, I am preparing a PDF preview of the Book of Taverns, containing an excerpt of one of the taverns with its map and details that explain the particulars of the art on the cover.

Come visit www.necromancergames.com. It should be up soon.

Exactly :)

Thats exactly what this book is about. Getting something out of the ordinary. This is NOT a book of "ok, you enter a big room with a fireplace and tables and some hot serving wenches and behind the bar is an guy with a scar/lost arm/peg leg/eye patch [fill in stereotype here], who has a rumor about the dungeon/village/upcoming adventure."

These inns and taverns are unique, and deserving of use in your game world.

OK, that's pretty darn cool :) I had a moderate interest in this initially, but now this sounds like something to add to the library.

I also noticed a couple of "interesting" names in Section 4 in the Legal Appendix of the PDF preview (above the OGL):

"Wallis of Hogshead Bend"
"Guild of Judges"

I'm sure there's more, but those two jumped out at me ;)
