Necromancers and NPCs

NPCs are treated differently than PCs; created differently, have different powers, etc etc.

The Necromancer, when it comes out, will be statted for PCs.

So who's to say that we won't get NPC Necromancers before we get the PC ones? There might be NPC necros in the MM, or necro powers detailed in the DMG.

I just read it again. Yes it is an evil Cleric of Orcus. I don't know why my subconscious interpreted this Cleric as being a Necromancer! Maybe my intuition tells me there's something there to look twice about plot twist.

Cripes, one of the things that seems to be a staple that sets 4e apart from 3.x is that NPC's aren't restricted to PC classes and abilities.

I, for one, won't let myself be handcuffed to player classes and abilities and intend to make up all sorts of nasty buggers to make the player's lives hell (and, of course, a lot of fun )

Yeah, I keep forgetting that NPC's don't have to have PC stats.

Still, whatever available Necromantic abilities there may be in the game, I bet it'll pale in comparison to all the abilities that'll be available to a Necromancer class. That doesn't mean you have to write up the NPC as a Necromancer PC, but it does give you a ton of possible powers to choose from. And personally I can't wait to see what some of those powers are.

I am pretty sure you could create a great NPC necromancer simply by taking a wizard or something based off of the wizard and surrounding him with a large number of undead minions... So long as you can even just pretend that an "animate undead" ritual exists, making a necromancer is pretty easy.

I am really not sure what kind of abilities that a special-built "monster" necromancer would have...

Having a large number of necromatically created monsters is good for an NPC necromancer, but a pain in the ass for a PC one. I should know, since I played a Dread Necromancer.

A necromancer is 3 parts fluff and one part power selection .

I'm really really looking forward to NPC creation now, I pretty much have free range.

Loads of Necrotic Bolts, Rotting Flesh spells and buckets of undead created from rituals in his spellbook, wrapped in human skin of course!!
