Need a little help here! [Scarred Lands]

Nightfall

Sage of the Scarred Lands
Just wanted to run an idea by you guys. This weekend I may be running a RL game...but I dunno if I should do this:

My idea is to have a druid follower of Chern come to the port city of Shelzar. There he's working in concert with a Vangalite priest to disrupt trade and show off the power of "pestilence" by infesting a goodly number of upper class citizens. Now said priest is also has a non-magical set of battle axes, both possesed by fiends of possession. (They were a gift of sorts...) So now I'm wondering if I'm over doing it or not. I am using mid level PCs...but I dunno if I'm over doing or not. Thoughts, comments, ideas wanted.

(Oh yeah also considered using a Fiend of Blasphemy to create a cult of sorcereress devoted to Graz'zt. but that's not certain.)

Hey !

I'm supposing you have a REALLY good reason for a priest of Vangal to be working with the follower of a Titan?

That idea raises some flags for me. You might wanna have those as seperate plot threads there, having the cooroperation between them being more "behind the scenes", so they would be encountered seperately. I'm sure they could not stand to be together in the same room very long anyway.

I'm not sure why the axes would be over-the-top ( but I don't have my FF with me , and even then, I don't know your party composition... ) - they could be relatively weak fiends, yes?

Just a quick ramble

Not really but I guess I could just make them separate things. Murder and death in lower parts of Shelzar, the upper crust dying off through pestilence. Course I think maybe I'll change the Vangalite to just some formerly nice Albadian barbarian that's now a kind of serial killer. Thanks Biggie. That DOES help me some.

I agree they shouldn't be working together, but what about trying to out do each other? Nothing like throwing the pc in the middle of a battle between two dangerous foes!

Might try that...after a while of course. I think the cleric might try to cause havoc by having his "battle" axes do some damage and then the druid of Chern send out plagues to show who has the more power. I like THAT idea. :)

Nothing really leaps out at me.
Sometimes I've held back on a good idea when I should have let it run but it is important to be careful when dealing with powerful NPCs.

In general my only rule for having lots of powerful evil (or antagonistic) characters around is make sure they have a good reason not to kill the PCs outright.
I also like make sure they have limited resources. Otherwise I tend to just give them more and more followers, nasty servants, etc. which can get out of hand. though that may not be a problem for you.

You could have the Chern Druid infect one of the PCs with one of his diseases (making the PC a carrier, not a victim) and then have the Vangalite attempt to kill the PCs because he thinks they are in collusion with the Titan- Worshipper (which of course they are not, they are just unwilling and unwitting pawns).

That would mean that everywhere the PC goes he leaves a trail of sickness and possibly death in his wake, unless he discovers the cause. But he first has to deal with the psychotic Vangalite who has targeted him for no real reason the PC can discern.

Mmm might try that too in a slightly altered fashion. Thanks Fevil. (Definately think I'd enjoy seeing the PCs reaction that they are a "Typhiod Mary" type.)

Alternately, you might make the Vangalite manipulate the Chernite into causing trouble, for the express purpose of him showing up and being able to "save the day" by showing the city the might of Vangal against that of Chern.

Of course, when the PCs wipe out the Chernite first and discover the Vangalite's manipulations, they have to be eliminated before the news that he was consorting with titan-worshippers gets out...
