Need a 'ranged' weapon for my Warden.

As said before, it's a decent backup in the case of flying enemies or when you can't get to melee range. But 99% percent of the time, move + charge should be able to get you into melee every time, and that's where a warden ought to be in the first place.

The answer to your question is 'Grasping Tratnyr.'

For the cost of one item and one feat, you gain an encounter power that allows you to slide to you an enemy that the Tratnyr hits, and grab it.

Keeping immobilized enemies near you is very pro-defender.

A feat is a big investment though.

The only reason you should be using a ranged weapon is becuase you've been immobilsed or the terrain prevents you from reaching your enemy for some reason. It's easy enough to carry 5 or 6 Javelins in your pack, say bound in a way on the outside so they can be retrieved fairly easily.

Sheath Khopesh, draw Javelin, Throw it.

These occaision should be rare, but when they occur you'll wonder why you didn't have one along just in case.

An encounter power is a big return.

I don't disagree, but this isn't like a fighter or paladin or swordmage who can mark at a distance. Grasping tratnyr handles your situation.

But the grasping tratnyr opens up tactical opportunities you didn't have before. Artillery giving you hassle? Running over there might be difficult, but not impossible, but pulling him towards you AND preventing escape? That's not just defensive goodness, that allows the good ol fashioned gangster curbstomp.

The question is, with a rogue or sorc throwing off ranged attacks, do I really need it ?

It's a pretty good idea to have something you can do at range in case you come up against flying creatures or people you can't get to immediately

Javelins are cheap so if you pick a couple up at the start

Hasn't it been nerfed in the last errata?

Keep in mind that the Grasping power doesn't work at range every since the errata, however. You can use it as a melee weapon, but it only pulls enemies 1 square now.

Making your main weapon into +1 Farbond Spellblade Kopesh is another option. You can throw it as a heavy thrown weapon with 5/10 range.
