D&D General Need AD&D research assistance re: Towers on edge to Negative Energy Plane?

I clearly remember reading something that had unknown towers or citadels on the edge of the negative energy plane created by an unknown someone/thing to research.

I "thought" there was either a ring of these towers (one on the edge of each elemental plane) around the energy plane.

Might even have been some on the edge/around the positive energy plane.

But, even though I can see the page in my mind, and I know I read it somewhere (I thought official) I can't find the reference.

Any ideas? (I dont think its the doom guards's citadel).

Maybe Return to the Tomb of Horrors 2e adventure? There are mysterious towers in the Negative Energy Plane there. I think it's the city of Moil maybe...

At work at the moment, otherwise I'd break out my copy of Inner Planes and look it up, but the only ones that come to mind bordering the Negative Energy Plane are the four Doomguard citadels in the Negative Quasi-Elementals.

I do recall four towers bordering the Positive Energy Plane in the Positive Quasi-Elementals, though - the Tower of Lead on the border between Positive and Mineral, for example.

Yeah, I'm going to search everything I have tonight after work, its going to bug me until I figure it out.

Theoretically in Planescape they may hae retconned them to Doomguard, but I'm hoping to find the original reference.

Not sure I looked in the quasi's yesterday...

They're in the 2e Planescape book The Inner Planes, mentioned in each negative Quasi-Elemental Plane. I don't have the book available right now, but thats where you'll find the info on them.

They might have been mentioned in the original Manual of the Planes, but I'm less sure on that.

I've an idea they are older than that, since I have a vague memory of the towers and I never had 2e The Inner Planes or 3e Manual of the Planes. I think it was just something deliberately weird and unexplained. Some mysterious entity using the energy planes as a giant battery.

Can't rule out Mandela effect though.

The Doomguard had a citadel in each of the Negative Quasi-Elemental Planes: The Crumbling Citadel (Ash), Citadel Alluvius (Dust), Citadel Sealt (Salt), and Citadel Exhalus (Vacuum) they're mentioned on Page 43 of Factol's Manifesto and in the book Inner Planes were they're detailed in the chapters of their respective planes.
