Need Balancing Help - prestige class "Oozing Creep"

xnrdcorex

First Post
I have created a prestige class for divine casters. It focuses on a character's obsession with oozes and borrows from a few established prestige classes and feats such as the thrall of juiblex from the book of vile darkness.

Any help in regards to balancing its abilities, pointers for changes, or ideas to add or remove abilities would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Oozing Creep
Requirements:
Alignment: Any non-lawful
Skills: Knowledge Dungeoneering 8 ranks
Feats: Initiate of the Ooze(I renamed Initiate of Ghaunadaur in order to remove forgotten realm's flavor and add my own)
Willing Deformity
Spells: Can cast 3rd lvl divine spells
Special: Has grappled with at least one ooze or been engulfed by a gelatinous cube

Class Skills: 4+int at each level – escape artist, Knowledge(Dungeoneering), Concentration, Intimidate, Jump, Climb, Disguise, Listen, Move Silently, Spot
Spells per day: at every other level +1 spell casting to existing class

Saves: cleric saves
Base Attack: Good Base attack progression

Lvl BA Fort Ref Will Abilities
1st +1 +2 +0 +2 Slimy Smell, Oozy Eyes I(Blindsight 15)
2nd +2 +3 +0 +3 +1 existing spell casting, The Ooze from Within I
3rd +3 +3 +1 +3 Call of the Ooze I, Oozy Eyes II
4th +4 +4 +1 +4 +1 existing spell casting, Oozy Face, can cast Freedom of Movement 3/day
5th +5 +4 +1 +4 The Ooze from Within II, Oozy Eyes III
6th +6 +5 +2 +5 +1 existing spell casting, Call of the Ooze II
7th +7 +5 +2 +5 Oozy Eyes IV, Call of the Ooze III
8th +8 +6 +2 +6 +1 existing spell casting, One with the Ooze I
9th +9 +6 +3 +6 Call of the Ooze III, One with the Ooze II
10th +10 +7 +3 +7 As Ooze Is Ooze, One with the Ooze III, The Oozy Flood

For all of the Oozing creep's abilities the DC is equal to 10+ the characters Shapeless Creep level + Con modifier

Slimy smell- creatures within 5 feet must make a Fortitude save or receive a -1 on attacks and skill checks due to the sickening stench

Oozy Eyes – the characters gains Blindsight 15 feet at rank I, Blindsight 30 at rank II, Blindsight 45 at rank III, and Blindsight 60 at rank IV. This represents his senses becoming more like that of an ooze. As this ability increases the characters eyes over time begin to turn into deep gray puddles. If for any reason someone were to stab the character's eye at rank IV, they would find it is pure liquid and it doesn't harm him.

The Ooze from Within- The character's body begins to change over time into a oozy amorphous form. Before this happens though, the character's body must evolve and familiarize itself with ooze-like traits. At rank I the characters gains Acid Resist 10. At rank II the character's stomach can digest any flesh or metal, and once per day he can vomit corrosive ooze from his stomach out from his mouth in a 30 foot long 5 foot wide line that deals 8d6 acid damage. Reflex Saves for half-damage.

Call of the Ooze- The character can summon the oozes he familiarized himself with in the past. At rank I the character can summon a green slime, gray ooze, ocher jelly, or gelatinous cube 3 times per day with his Oozing Creep level as his caster level. At rank II the character can summon two oozes from the same list. At rank III the Oozing Creep can summon a Black Pudding.

One with the Ooze- The Oozing Creeps blood is now entirely corrosive. At rank I when he is struck in combat, the attacker's weapon is damaged as if it struck a gray ooze. The reflex save of 16 to save their weapon is a set number. In addition potions no longer work on the Oozing Creep, and all criticals have a 25% miss chance. At rank II the Oozing Creep can polymorph as a 9th level caster at will. In addition he is so along his path to oozy greatness that he is now immune to paralysis and criticals have a 50% miss chance. At rank III the Oozing Creep no longer has an anatomy and gains Ooze traits

As Ooze is Ooze- When the Oozing Creep becomes so Oozy that even Oozes can no longer tell the difference between it and another ooze, the Oozing Creep can speak to oozes as if they had an intelligence of 2, and can use diplomacy on oozes

The Oozy Flood- The Oozing Creep's power and influence over all things that ooze has gained him notoriety within the pools and crevices of the world. The Oozing Creep gains the leadership feat as described in the dungeon masters guide on page 106, however the cohorts and followers the Oozing Creep acquires consist of oozes, jellies, puddings, slimes, and cubes of an equal ECL to what he would normally obtain.

Cool class, though it rightfully should be in House Rules I think. :)

Quartz is right, full Base Attack seems bit off.

I think there ought to be more of a progression of the Acid resistance.

Blindsight: Maybe they should get Blindsense initially, then Blindsight later on?

1) Level-based range on the Slimy Smell feature? What's the DC based on? (I suggest 10+class level+Con modifier). I'd also put in a stipulation that makes a foe immune to the smell's effects if they successfully saves. Is the Oozing Creep immune to the Slimy Smell feature of other Oozing Creeps?

2) Ooze Traits: Unless you want to PC who takes this class to become Mindless, you might want to stipulate that it the PC does not gain the Mindless Trait. I feel it should be like the Green Star Adept, not gaining immunity to mind-affecting effects.

3) Does the PC also become Blind upon becoming an ooze?

4) Might also be good to state exactly what traits the Oozing Creep gets upon getting this class feature, due to the above two points.

5) Spellcasting: I notice you left out the spell progression at 10th level, is it supposed to be like that?

6) Skills: Maybe 4 ranks in Escape Artist to get in?

7) An Ooze is an Ooze: Why not give this at 1st level, and treat it like Wild Empathy (see Druid), but only working on Oozes? Perhaps you could add either twice your Oozing Creep class level + your Cha modifier, or maybe 5+Oozing Creep class level + Cha modifier?
Alternate name: Ooze with me?

8)Does the Oozing Creep get the ability to squeeze through tight spaces, or temporarily gain the ability to do so? Perhaps only a few times per day? You could make it based on the amount of Escape Artist ranks you have (1 round duration/2 ranks of Escape Artist, for instance).

I hope these comments have helped!

Here's a thrown-together oozy class (Main influences: Green Star Adept + Thrall of Juiblex):

Feats: Initiate of the Ooze, Great Fortitude
Spells: Able to cast 3rd level divine spells

	Oozy Resilience IV

Class Skills
A Gelatinous Apostle’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Concentration (Con), Climb (Str), Disguise (Cha), Escape Artist (Dex), Intimidate (Cha), Knowledge (dungeoneering) (Int), Listen (Wis), Move Silently (Dex), and Spot (Wis).
Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier.

Class Features
All of the following are class features of the Gelatinous Apostle prestige class

Weapon and Armour Proficiency: Gelatinous Apostles gain no proficiency with any type of weapon, armour, or shield.

Spells per Day/ Spells Known: At every even-numbered level, a Gelatinous Apostle gains new spells per day (and spells known, if applicable) as if he had also gained a level in an divine spellcasting class to which he belonged before adding the prestige class level. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (such as improved chance to turn or rebuke undead). If he had more than one arcane spellcasting class before becoming a Green Star adept, he must choose to which class to add each level for the purpose of determining spell per day and spells known.

Summon Ooze: A gelatinous adept can channel stored spell energy into summoning spells that he hasn’t prepared ahead of time. He can “lose” a prepared spell in order to summon an ooze to his side, as if with a summon monster spell. The various oozes can be summoned with the following spells.
Summon Monster 3: Gelatinous Cube
Summon Monster 4: Grey Ooze
Summon Monster 5: Ochre Jelly
Summon Monster 6: Black Pudding
Summon Monster 9: Elder Black Pudding

This ability is otherwise identical to the cleric’s spontaneous casting ability.

Rebuke Ooze (Su): A Gelatinous Apostle adds his gelatinous apostle levels to his cleric levels for all purposes related to rebuking and commanding oozes.

Damage Reduction (Ex): A Gelatinous Adept’s flesh becomes malleable and pliant, making him resistant to cuts and scrapes. He gains damage reduction 1/bludgeoning. Each level thereafter, his damage reduction improves by 1, until by 10th level, he has damage reduction 10/bludgeoning.

Hunger (Ex): The gelatinous adept’s hardiness and vitality come at a cost. Beginning at 1st level, the adept must eat twice as much food as a creature of its type normally eats. Each time the adept’s Oozy Resilience ability improves (see below), his hunger grows, increasing the volume of food required to sustain his body by 1. Therefore at 4th level, the apostle need 3x the normal amount. At 7th level, he needs 4x, and finally at 10th level, he requires 5x the ordinary amount of food a creature of his type requires.

Oozy Resilience (Ex): At 1st level, a gelatinous apostle’s process of transformation has already begun. His flesh becomes soft, but resistant to trauma. A 1st-level gelatinous apostle’s Constitution score increases by 1, but his Dexterity score drops by 1 (to a minimum of 3. He also gains Acid Resistance 5.
When an apostle reaches 4th level, his Constitution improves by another point, and his Acid resistance increases to 10.
At 7th level, an apostle’s Constitution increases by 2 more, for a total increase of +4, while his Dexterity is reduced by 1 (to a minimum of 3). His Acid Resistance improves to 20.
At 10th level, an apostle’s Constitution score increases 2 more points (total increase of +6) and his Dexterity is reduced by 1 (total reduction of 3, to a minimum of 3). He also becomes immune to Acid damage.

Slime (Ex): A gelatinous apostle secretes a digestive enzyme from its skin. The apostle’s slimy skin grants him a +1 circumstance bonus on escape artist checks per class level.

Slime Empathy (Ex): Oozes find it difficult to attack a gelatinous apostle. An ooze must succeed at a Will save (DC 5 + apostle level + charisma modifier) to initiate an attack on the apostle. If the apostle attacks the ooze, the ooze is then free to attack the apostle.

Natural Attack (Ex): Beginning at 2nd level, a Gelatinous Apostle gains a slam attack that deals bludgeoning damage equal to a club sized for the character (1d4 for Small adepts, 1d6 for Medium adepts, and 1d8 for Large adepts), plus 1 ½ times his Strength modifier. The gelatinous adept is proficient with his slam attack.

Gelatinous Hardiness (Ex): When an apostle reaches 2nd level, his internal essence begins to rapidly alter his internal organs. He gains a +2 bonus on saving throws against poison, sleep effects, paralysis, polymorph effects, and stunning.
At 5th level, a gelatinous apostle’s bonus on saving throws against the attack forms listed above increase to +4. At 8th level, the save bonus increases to +6.

Fortification (Ex): At 3rd level and higher, a gelatinous apostle has a resistance to attacks that affect other living creatures. When a critical hit or sneak attack is scored on the character, there is a 25% chance that the critical hit or sneak attack is negated and the damage is instead rolled normally.
When an adept reaches 6th level, this ability improves, increasing the chance of negating a critical or sneak attack to 50%. At 9th level, a gelatinous apostle has a 75% chance to negate a critical hit or sneak attack.

Acidic Slime (Su): As a swift action, a gelatinous apostle of 3rd level or higher can expend spell energy to cause his slime to become acidic for 1 round, plus 1 round per level of the spell expended. When he does so, the apostle deals 1d4 points of acid damage when he uses his slam attack. At 5th level, the apostle’s acid damage increases to 1d6. At 9th level, a gelatinous apostle deals 2d4 points of acid damage when striking with his slam attack.
An apostle who remains in contact with an organic or metallic object or creature deals acid damage equal to 5 + his class level + his Constitution modifier per full round of contact with the apostle’s skin.
A gelatinous apostle’s slime does not cause damage to stone objects or cannot harm creatures made primarily of stone. Gelatinous apostles are immune to the effects of their own slime, and the slime of other gelatinous apostles. An apostle’s gear is not subject to damage from his acidic slime.

Ooze Senses (Ex): Beginning at 4th level, a gelatinous apostle gains blindsense 10ft. At 6th level, his blindsense improves to 30 feet. At 8th level, an adept’s senses grow even more acute, and he gains blindsight 10ft. A 10th-level gelatinous adepts senses are so fine that his blindsight extends to 30 feet (superseding his blindsight).

A gelatinous adept’s blindsense relies on having his skin exposed to the air, thus working only when he is unarmoured.

Mutable Form (Su): At 5th level, a gelatinous apostle gains the ability to change his appearance at will, as if using the alter self spell. He may do this only when in his normal form.

Slimy Doom (Ex): A 6th-level gelatinous apostle who scores a critical hit with his slam attack may, as a swift action, expend spell energy to expel a burst of digestive enzymes. When he does so, the opponent’s armour and clothing dissolves and become useless. The target of an apostle’s Dissolve attack may attempt a Reflex save (DC 11 + level of the spell expended + Con modifier) to negate the attack.

Ooze Metabolism (Ex): When a gelatinous apostle reaches 7th level, his transformation approaches completion. He no longer needs to sleep, and is immune to sleep effects and poison.
As a side effect of this change, the apostle no longer gains any benefit from potions he ingests.

Acid Breath (Su): A 9th level gelatinous apostle can channel stored spell energy into a powerful acidic breath weapon. You can lose any prepared spell or spell slot in order to generate a 60-foot line of acid beginning in your square. The line deals 1d8 points of acid damage per level of the spell slot to all targets in the area (Reflex half); any creature damaged by this effect is nauseated for 1 round. A Fortitude save negates the nauseating effect. The saving throw against acid breath is equal to 10 + the level of the spell + your Con modifier.

Gelatinous Apotheosis (Ex): At 10th level, a Gelatinous Apostle completes his transformation. He resembles a smooth and melted version of himself. His type changes to ooze, which brings about the following alterations to his basic nature:

-Unlike other oozes, a Gelatinous Apostle has no special immunity to mind-affecting effects. He is essentially a humanoid with an extremely supple, flexible body.

-He gains immunity to poison, paralysis, polymorph, sleep effects, stunning, extra damage from sneak attacks.

-He is no longer subject to critical hits or flanking.

-He no longer takes ability score penalties for aging and cannot be magically aged. Any penalties he may have already incurred, however, remain in place. Bonuses still accrue, and the apostle still dies of old age when his time is up.

Gelatinous Renewal (Su): At 10th level, a gelatinous apostle’s body continually heals damage inflicted to it gaining fast healing 2. The apostle may spend a full-round action to increase the rate of healing to 10 by succeeding on a Concentration check (DC =total damage dealt).

Feat:
Initiate of the Ooze

You have learned the dread secrets of the god of oozes, slimes, jellies, and outcasts.
Prerequisites: Divine caster level 3rd, Knowledge (Dungeoneering) 3 ranks
Benefit:
You can command or rebuke oozes as an evil cleric commands or rebukes undead. You can use this supernatural ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Cha modifier.
In addition, you add the following spells to your divine spell list.
1st: Corrosive Grasp
2nd: Blindsight
3rd: Amorphous Form
5th: Slime Hurl
7th: Mantle of the Slime Lord

[/sblock]

Since I rushed it out, there may be many errors. I've got a feeling it's a little strong, and I kind of want to stretch it out to 12 or more levels, and allow more growth and oozy goodness. I might yet do so, but for now I figure I want to get this up for posterity.

Anyhow, xnrdcorex, let me know what you think. :)

hmm

thanks for all the help guys. The errors in my table and abilities are noted and I'll post a corrected version when I have a little more time later.

As for the alternate oozy prc, many of those abilities, while sounding ooze like, aren't actually apart of what an ooze has. Also, I want this class to continue spell progression because intiate of ghaunadar and the slime domain give spells to your spell list that only become useful when you can cast lvl 5 and 7 spells.

One last thing is that the 7th level spell mantle of the slime lord allows the caster to become completely amorphous, and while I didn't want to emulate this ability in the class, he has it in his spell list from the required feats, so he can use a wand of it, or a scroll, at lower levels.

but anyhow I'll post a corrected version later when I have some more time.

Thanks again!

Neat, but I would skip all the "I, II, III" business. Just say "The character gains Blindsight (15 feet) at first level. At 3rd level and every three levels thereafter,it increases by 15-feet (maximum of 60-feet at 9th level).

That would be a cleaner way of doing it, and it keeps your progression chart easier-to-read.

I am not a fan of weapons getting destroyed, especially if you kill the monster and just sell it. How about something closer to the Aliens Movie?

"At 8th level, The Oozing Creep's blood is now entirely corrosive to flesh and living matter. Whenever he takes damage from a melee attack, there is a chance that his blood will splash onto his attacker. When he is struck this way, the attacker must make a Refex Save (DC 16 + half the Oozing Creeps level) or take 1d4 points of acid damage. At 9th and 10th levels, the DC increases by +2 and the damage increases to 1d6 and 1d8 respectively."

This allows the ability to scale up a little better.
