I got halfway through the second paragraph and hit "My character even had a name!"...*splutters with giggles* I love reading these things...more comments as I carry on reading...

I was hoping someone would enjoy that. :p

"For several intense hours, I escaped my beloved grandmother's Alzheimer's disease and my failing nursing grades in college" - grin again. BTW - it's not the story that I'm laughing at, I think being addicted to anything is bad, it's just the tone of the article that always gets me...

I know exactly what you mean. Watching T.V., surfing online, playing video games, masturbation, and a host of other activities can all be addicting, but no one is screaming how evil THOSE exampels are (especially the last example; many people proclaim how NORMAL and FINE it is to do that).

I'm having a go at the ridiculous tone of these sort of articles, that basically tie together unconnected events to prove some sort of point that doesn't exist.

Idiotic, isn't it?

I just found that article this morning and it was good for one thing: making me laugh my arse off.

Got any more short articles on a similar theme? I'm feeling a little trollish today!

Go on! Give me something to really be horrible to!

Well, I do have a few more, but I would rather post a well thought out and concise arguement for why D&D is fine and dandy -- by a Christian, no less!

Share your thoughts about this one (if you can stay awake through it all, as its a bit wordy, but a good read).

How has evil been updated in 3rd edition?
3e is certainly more evil because it's easier to play and thus recruit new, fresh souls for the mill. Before it was much harder to convert the weak because they would easily be intimidated by such nonsense as weapon speeds and lengthy explanations of THAC0 and how 3 attacks in 2 rounds worked.

And don't get me started on my hefty profit margins in running 3e games versus the dismal returns per game of 1e/2e.

I'm only seeing old material and amusing anectdotes so far. I need recent, hard examples of D&D evil. Like game book text interpretations or really naughty pictures.

How about that Deities and Demigods book, for instance? -- Seems to be an excuse to promote false worship to various dark forces. The "Taiia" goddess in the back of the book is clearly an attempt to skew current monotheistic belief systems into something fickle and petty.

And everyone knows that God created mankind in his own image. The suggestion that players take on the personality of some other race -- a "half-orc," for example -- is definitely an example of evil. Especially when a half-orc gains certain benefits that make him stronger than the average god-fearing human being.

(God, I know I'm going to get soooooooo many negative responses to this . . .)

Being a Jew who doesn't believe in God simply because He/She/It doesn't make sense and hasn't proven that He/She/It exists to me personally, I might not be the best person to comment, but . . .

First we must understand where Christianity, and therefore the idea that 'DnD is Evil,' cam from. Read The Bible Unearthed. Read it? Gooooooood. So, now we know that the original bible from which the Christians expanded on, was written by a group known today as the Dueteronimists, not som dude named Moses that died well past logical maximum age. Now lets take a look at my good friend JC. Durring this pereod, there was more than one holy son and prophet. Oh no my friend, there were quite a few. Ever seen The Life of Brian? Remember the scene in which he has been mistaken as a prophet? "The shoe!" "No, the gourd!" Yeah, kinda like that, but slightly less comical. So Jesus wasn't the *only* messiah.

Now let's look at Jesus after he bit the bullet. Had the tenacity to come back, did he? Well, how did he do that? divine miracle, of course! Hmmmmm. Sound similar to any spells in the PHB? Anyone? Anyone? Ah yes! True Ressurection! So, now you can see that DnD is actually based off of a divine miracle that ACTUALLY HAPPENED, because THE BIBLE MUST BE TRUE, as GOD WOULD NEVER LIE TO US, if he did HE DOESN'T DESERVE TO BE WORSHPPED BY MILLIONS OF PEOPLE, EVERY WEEK, ONCE A WEEK.

Okay, end Jeph's rant on how religion is phony and fake. Let the flames, angry emails from mods, stern reprimand by our favorite swashbuckling kitten, etcetera, commence.

Jeph, why not just keep flaming comments like that to yourself?

It seems to me that you want to be flamed, or contacted by a mod because of the last line of your post.

OK I got timed out on my reply to that second link.

He's not all bad, that guy, but he needs to calm down and remember that not everyone wants to be converted to Christianity as he sees it, and that it's ok not to want it.

I had a really long reply to it, but now it's vanished into the ether. Grrr.
