Need help with an NPC weakness!

shadowlight

First Post
In a game that I'm starting in the next couple of weeks, I have an NPC electrokineticist who is fairly powerful. I need to come up with some ideas for weaknesses that would help him be less powerful.

So what do you think? What's a good weakness for an electrokineticist?

BTW, I'm using the psionics rules from Green Ronin's Psychic's Handbook, and this is set in present day.

Thanks!

When I think of electricity, I think of a) water (maybe he "short circuits" for a short while if immersed in water or hit by an attack containing ice or water), and b) magnetism (maybe he has a magnetic field around him, causing metal weapons to hit him harder).

and when i think of kinetics... i think of movement.

perhaps he has spurts of movement. one round he is slowed, one round normal, and one round hasted

Running with the water idea: uncontrolable discharge if he's immersed in water. If he gets dunked, he has to vent as much power as he can every round until he's out of juice, or is able to get out of the water. Anything that requires a target automatically targets the water around him by default. You may want to have him with some resistance to electricity so he doesn't just kill himself by going off, but rather just ends up totally drained as a result.

He'd probably end up with some odd grooming habits as a result, like "bathing" with handi-wipes, rather than taking showers or baths just to keep himself from wrecking the place.

Maybe his presence screws up electronic equipment of certain types if he doesn't take measures to ground himself? Maybe he can use a computer if he makes sure to wear gloves and three or four grounding strips, but unprotected he'd wreck it. Gets within a couple feet of a video camera and it dies. Maybe electronic scanning equipment just burns itself out if it tries to take a reading off him... would make for fun at the airport. Things like that.

Redheads?

That's mine...

ahem.

How about he just automatically drains whatever batteries he comes in contact with? Or even near? He could wind up pulling so much power through normal wires as to blow circuit breakers wherever he went...

This is kind of what I had in mind.

The way I look at it, I can use the electricity aspect or the psychic aspect of electrokinesis to create a weakness. For the electricity aspect, I think water and magnetism are the best bets. For the psychic aspect there could be something cheesy like hypnosis or magic... :\

But I'm really trying to find a "kryptonite" for this guy... maybe magents...

Thanks for the help!

Quartz or Opal.

They're naurally occuring forms of Silicon Dioxide, which is a very effective natural insulator.

Physical. Anything metalic causes him to shunt power, so he has to stay insulated himself. He could also be sustained by electicity. He needs it like food, or maybe even air as he becomes more powerful. Hitting him with anything metallic could cause him to discharge too much energy. The PCs could also track him down by finding orders for genetators, high electric bills, etc.

He could draw the energy from an area, either inadvertantly, or out of necesity. Being insulated from the outside, RF heavy world could diminish his power. This could also mean the PCs take damage when near him as he drws the energy right from their bodies. This could be damage or a cumalative save vs fatuige, exhaustion, unconciousness. If he could be trapped in a non cunductive RF shielded material, he could be captured. Drawing too much energy could overcharge him.

If he has the ability to tap into machinery or power grids, he could be vulnerable to anything that would affect these things. Power shutting off, a power surge during a storm, power being drawn into a battery, etc.

Mentally, lets say he got his powers from being struck by lightning, (classic/cliche). This could cause him to be absolutly phobic about rain or lightning storms. At least those which he dosn't control himself, if those are the powers you envision him having.

With an above suggestion, quartz bullets sound kinda cool. They could do extra damage and pass thru any protective power he has in place. Quartz bolas and silicon ropes could ground him out, causing an casting failure chance, ala D&D.
