Need help with Star Trek D&D character

Bugaboo

First Post
I'm playing a new half-vulcan half-orc barbarian science officer, but I'm not sure whether he can still use his Vulcan Nerve Pinch(tm) while he's raging. What's the ruling on that?

(My last character died in a horrible explosion when he inadvertantly exceeded his phaser's spell-storage capacity. A warning to all new players: Keep Detailed Mana Logs!)

On an unrelated issue: Can ferengi successfully mate with halflings? I figure such a biological mix would improve both races.

What kind of idiot troll is this??? Everyone knows there are NO VULCANS in Star Trek!!!! How on earth did you end up running a Vulcan in your Star Trek D&D campaign? Your DM must be a total idiot!!! Go back to your kiddie school, you L0Z3R!!!!1!

Well, let me be the first to say that I haven't heard of this ruleset, but I'm already afraid of it.

As for using the Neck Pinch while raging-- no. That requires concentration, which is why only Vulcans (and Data) can do it.

I thought that was errata'd. Surely Vulcans can neck pinch instinctively, without having to concentrate?

Now if it was a raging Romulan, I'd agree with you.

1) No vulcan neck-pinches when raging. The can inadvertantly grab elsewhere.
2) What was wrong with your tricorder?
3) No. Only gnomes can mate with Ferengi. Or, if you use the official variant, kender.

Well, Tallarn, you're forgetting that half-vulcans (orcish ancestry or no) are still subject to Pon'Far. Clearly, failure to mention this was an honest mistake on the part of Bugaboo.

You'll find that during this time the concentration check has to be made and I'm pretty sure there's a circumstance penalty, but I forget how much.

Yeah, I thought it was a racial ability, too. Sorta like gnome 0-level illusions.

re phasers: I *really* appreciate the way the game designers recrafted that attack mode. What a great idea to have that gizmo use the Magic Missile spell instead! The mage-engineer really earns the spotlight in our campaign.

My bad. Apologies. In that case, I would state that No, raging half-orc/half-vulcans can't Neck Pinch.

Maybe we could house rule it so that they could, but only for actual damage rather than subdual? In a "I was cross, I pressed a little too hard" kind of way?

Does that mean he can't use the nerve pinch as an AoO? That sucks!

We've been doing it wrong for like 2 years now. WTH? That's what they get for firing the Sage.

They broke the neck pinch!!!

I'm house ruling it for my home game, then. Bug, if you want a half-orc/half-vulcan guy who can nerve pinch, you're welcome to play one in my game. but I'll have to explain the amoeba sub-plot first. When I get to the part about whales and hamsters, I usually lose players.....
