Ok, my pally in this campaign, right now with ancestral relic, has the capability to raise the overall bonus to +4. I am using a Longsword and shield. Right now the weapon is +1 Bane(Evil outsiders). So i can have an additional +2, but for the life of me cannot thing of anything that would be optimal. Doesnt have to specific to creature types or anything, as we have been fighting things all over tha map so far. Only thing in common is that they are evil most of the time.

Ruled out so far is Holy. As i have fist of raziel and all his weapons are holy at 10th lvl(4 more lvls away).

Kinda want vicious, as it gives me an xtra 2d6 every hit, but the damage taken would add up quickly.

Um.....please help!!(o yea, this has to be from WOTC books only please)

Evil Outsider bane will activate when you declare an attack targetting any being that is considered an outsider (either by being native to one of the outer planes or by being native to a plane it is not currently on), and either a) has the evil descriptor (as per demons, devils, yugloths, nightshades, night hags, and a few other choice nasties) or b) has an evil alignment (which is the case 99.26734% of the time if the creature fits description a). Outsiders that do not meet criteria a or b will not activate the bane bonuses, nor will non-outsiders that are evil or have the evil descriptor.

As for weapon abilities, anything like flaming/icy/shock (or their burst equivalent) are a safe bet if you're looking to pack more of a punch (the cliche 'flame of righteousness' comes to mind as an obvious choice for paladins, perhaps leading to a custom-designed ability that does holy and fire damage). Vicious is a great ability, the damage adds up, but as levels progress it only becomes less and less of a burden, especially as a paladin when you have the option of healing spells and lay hands at your fingertips, and a significant mass of starting HP. Also, a lot of people underestimate the simple but efficient benefit of more +1 bonuses, they not only add damage but increase your hit rate by 5%. Spellstoring can be used to great effect too, a spellstoring sword with a ray of enfeeblement, 3d8+15 inflict, or a hold person can be a nasty suprise.

Also if you want a more satisfying crunch when you hit your opponent, a bastard sword may be the way to go (I don't know how many feats you've devoted to the longsword, but the d10 weapon damage die is worth the exotic weapon proficiency in my opinion, especially if you're giving up the heavy hitting 2handers or extra attacks of dual wielding by opting for the AC of the shield)

how about keen and doom burst (minis handbook)?

Effectively doom burst is whenever you hit something with a crit (even crit immune) the target is shaken for 5 minutes.

Shaken: Characters who are shaken take a –2 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks.

Not exactly the most powerful thing in the world, but effectively it makes everything they do a little worse. It helps you not get hit as much and helps others cast spells on them easier.

Those are some good ideas guys.

Orichin: I am not taking andy +'s to hit/damage as i am going to cast GMW for that. Taking a chance with dispel magic tho, so i am not 100 sold on depending on a spell to increase my hit/damage as much.

Scion: Keen is definitely a good choice. I was going to take blessed with it(pretty much works as the spell bless weapon), only problem is that it doesnt work with anything that affects crits, so blessed is out unfotunately. The affect of doom burst is good, unfortunately only on a crit. I am looking to do as much damage as possible. I am sorry for not being clear about that earlier.

I am right now leaning on +1 and vicious. Give me on average an additional 7 to damage with me taking 3. I think other than taking burst weapons(they are +2 right?), this is the most damaage i can do per plus atm. I am kinda shying away from any burst weapons as running into a creature with immune to the element, plus with the low crit of hte Longsword, it would do on average 8 damage on a crit. I am just looking for as much damage as possible.

Would taking mercifull and vicious make sense.

Actually, doom burst is only +1 ;) If you are planning on useing either bless weapon or something similar then extra dice arent the most helpful since they dont multiply on a crit.

Where is blessed from?

If you were higher level I would suggest wounding, but you arent quite to the point where it would be really worthwhile just yet.

I can't recall the name of it, but if you're looking for damage, there's a +2 enchancement in the Psionics Handbook that adds +5 damage.
