Negative PLane Protection

First Post
Hello,

PLaying DND 3.5
I recently thought I saw a spell concerning negative plane protection. So I created a magic item with those benifits. The Item has become too Powerful. I went back to review the spell and could not find it. So first, is there such a spell? Second if there is not what do you think it should do? I had intended it to act like a protection form evil spell except that it would handle all undead and creatures from or controlled by the negative energy plane. Essentually to keep characters from turning into undead if they died in this module.

The characters have turned this into undead backs away from us and we get free hits.

Obviously I have really screwed up. So I can use any help you can offer

First there is an item that protects from negative energy already (the FIRST method of pricing magic items). Scarab of Protection. I even think that item is a tad to powerful with the spell resistance.

Second, the spell is protection from negative energy. Pricing the item as the 4th level cleric spell, but to function without limits all the time would be too powerful. Not quite a command word cure light wounds, but up there.

First thing, if a character protected by a protection from evil effect advances on a creature, the protection while not push them back, it fails. The protection is a defensive effect, not an offensive effect.

Second, if all of the characters have this item, then any attempt to melee with the undead will break the protection. If they are using missile weapons, then have the undead retreat out of sight. Assuming the undead have an Intelligence of at least 3, they can use tactics (at least a little), so plan a few ambushes that force the players to melee the undead, thus breaking the protection.

I think there's another negative energy protection spell out there. IIRC, it's from a newer product, maybe Libris Mortis? It's not death ward. The reason I remember it is b/c I remember saying to myself "that's a lot more like the 2E negative plane protection" spell.

Terribly sorry, I skimmed your message and missed what you were looking for. I would price it as a variation of
Shrouds of Disintegration

These burial wrappings look to be made of fine, embroidered materials. When a body is placed inside, a command word will turn it to dust. The magic of the shrouds is usable only once, after which the wrappings become ordinary, fine cloth.

Strong transmutation; CL 15th; Craft Wondrous Item, disintegrate; Price 6,600 gp; Weight 10 lb.
I would allow it as a single use item at 1/5 the cost, 1,320gp that would disintegrate them when they died. Most likely a scarab or something or vest. That would keep them from being raised as undead or otherwise. I suppose you could also make it just prevent the body from being raised if that's all you want to do. But it would be of limited use, if they are close enough to put the onyx in your mouth, they could remove the scarab.

Continious protection from evil is a no-no. The second method for pricing magic items is by effects. +2 armor from alignment, +2 saves from alignment, hedges out outsiders and summond creatures, Immunity from any domination or mind control, Duration permanent? Yea that should cost much more than the LAST RESORT method of pricing magic items, as the spell using the table.
