Nerfed Wildshape?

An Ex ability, so he doesn't get it.
and likewise, Constrict is Ex also - so he doesn't get that either.

If you get no Ex abilities, then a druid gets no rake, no pounce, no scent, no improved grab, no trample, no blindsight, no sprint, no ink cloud, no jet, no constrict, no poison, no attach, no trip, no swallow whole.
The previews suggest you get the combat-related extraordinary abilities (rake, pounce, improved grab, etc.) but none of the others.

Well, that's.. uh, sort of a step in the right direction.

Look in the MM.

There is a line for Special Attacks, and a line for Special Qualities.

You GET special attacks, like improved grab, and the like. You don't get special qualities.

It's not that you don't get Ex abilities, you just don't get ALL Ex abilities.

Looking right at the MM as we speak - I'm not seeing any line like the one you mention.

Edit: I forgot a 't'.

It's in the stat block.

One sec...pulling up the SRD.

Ok, look at the badger. "Special Attacks - Rage. Special Qualities - Scent".

You get rage. You don't get scent.

Good News to Plant Wild Shapers!

Andy, two questions on Wild Shape:

Will Wild Shaped Druids get to pick which equipment melds if they can wear it in their new form? Like, if I was wearing a cloak, and my new form allowed it to stay, but I wanted it to meld, can I pick whether it stays/melds?

Do Plant Wild Shaped Druids have immunity to crits and other plant qualities? I doubt they have immunity to mind affecting abilities, but just wanted to know for clarification.

Thanks!

The effect doesn't indicate that any choice is available.

Yes--the effect changes your type, and thus grants you all the traits possessed by the creature. A druid wild shaped into a shambling mound would be immune to mind-affecting effects, poison, and critical hits."

There ya go. You DO change type now.

Man, next time my level 10 druid is expecting to go up against an enemy druid, I'm keeping animal friendship prepared. :D

Daniel

I know, I know, it's no longer a spell. I still like the idea.

Well, since animals have low light vision, that gives them some benefits.

We have to wait and see what polymorph looks like, and what animal/plant/elemental traits are in 3.5.

I wish they had split Extraordinary abilities into "natural" and "extraordinary." Basic abilities such as "scent" or "low-light vision" would be natural, while others, such as "fast healing" could be extraordinary. If a given ability was deemed too good, it could always be classified as extraordinary to prevent abuse by wild-shaping druids.
