Netflix and the Jim Henson Company Series - THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE are carving a whole new generation of puppets for a 10 episode prequel series that will start filming later this year.

The synopsis states that "three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis' power and thus set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world"

I think this is really exciting, the 1982 movie was iconic and influential fantasy movie and it's great that its world can again be revisited and explored. Its poignant to reflect that the 3 heroes of this story will ultimately fail in their quest, thus setting the stage for Jens journey to heal the crystal

I hope its good and not just sentimentality and nostalgia...

I just caught wind of this on Facebook. Looks interesting and I know a few people who will be doing handsprings when they find out :)

Super excited to see this. Living up to the original will be tough, but I am hopeful.

I started reading the new Dark Crystal comic, which appears to be based on the script for the proposed sequel that never happened some years back. So far, it’s interesting, but there’s some essential magic that doesn’t translate from the big screen to the small page.

Oh man. I was hoping they did the stories of further back in time.

Back before the Crystal broke. Back before the Skesis and Mystics were formed.

What lend the urSkek to break the Crystal. The story of how Aughra lost her eye, and her experience seeing the previous "Great Conjunction".

maybe they can do that for season 3 :)
They needed to keep it in the same era as the movie so that it is still recognisable to fans while also being rebooted for the new audience. Before the Crystal broke would not be the same 'Dark Crystal' setting - having more gelflings around is already a big change

but exploring it in future I'm all for

its been a long time but could there have been more skesis that died prior to the movie. I'm assuming we will see gelflings prior to most being wiped out and at some point will be during the show. hope the incorporate more CGI but also remain true to the look of creatures

Many of the voice actors are still around and im assuming could be brought in to work on this

has Henson done a recent puppet style movie or show recently other than muppets?
