Netscape 7 help

Vocenoctum

First Post
When I click onto a page on Netscape 7.2, it puts a cursor on the page, and it won't scroll right using my arrow keys.

Anyone know what setting I need to change to get rid of this?

Thanks.

By "scroll right" do you mean "scroll to the right" or "scroll properly"?

Does the cursor look like a circle with an up and down arrow? Try Edit->Preferences and look for "Autoscrolling". Turn it off. Did that fix it?

A tip for you: upgrade to Firefox. It's the same code base as Netscape 7, but vastly improved. The difference is incredible. Netscape is not worth the trouble.

Download Firefox. Netscape is not and will not be supported on this site

(Been soured to Netscape ever since 4.0 - the Crapivator - and refuses to aknowledge it as a legitimate browser choice ever since).

The cursor is a straight line, the arrow keys move the cursor around on the page, instead of scrolling the page up/down.

I started to look at other browsers, but Nav has been fine for me so I didn't bother going too far.

I didn't see autoscrolling as an option, will look a bit more.

Er, okay, not sure what you mean by that.
When I develop new code for the site the output of the code is tested on IE 6, Firefox 1.5 and Safari. It is known to work on those browsers. It *should* work on other browsers but if it doesn't no attempt will be made server side to correct the display problem. As far as I know Twin Rose also only tests on those three platforms.

Ah, okay. Thought maybe you meant "don't ask here". Either way the problem isn't EN based, just figured I'd ask while I was here.

Is Firefox having the same issue? It's nearly the same browser. (It's basically Firefox with some stuff added atop it.)

Netscape 6+ uses the Mozilla rendering engine which FireFox does, but there's been a lot done with FireFox since the last Netscape-branded browser release (or even the last Mozilla-branded browser). So if you're going to use a Mozilla-derived browser, use FireFox.

I actually didn't mind Netscape 4. Sure, it sucked that it was now an AOL product, but at least with that version it still seemed to work decent. Of course, I thought everything after NS4 sucked (didn't they go straight to 6?)

As far as the OP's problem, I think it sounds like you're getting the scrolly arrow circle majigger... thingy. I think that's the technical term. Are you sure you're not clicking with the middle button? I can't say anything about NS7, but in Firefox and, I believe, MSIE, clicking the middle button usually places that there and removes it.
