Never heard of them before??

Back in the early 90s I was DJing a wedding dance one night and when I first set up the equipment I had some music playing to see how it sounded around the room. While "Under Pressure" was playing a young woman came up to me and asked me what son g that was and when I told her she replied "Oh, somebody re-did Vanilla Ice?"

further proof that the world is full of stupid people.

And then she voted.

There are stupid people in the world, no doubt, but to be fair, maybe she just had cultural blinders on...a lack of experience.

It was an honest mistake, I mean Vanilla Ice was a bastion of originality, what with "Ice, Ice Baby" originally being teh b-side of "Play That Funky Music". ;)

I so now have to hit YouTube for the video of the Vanilla Ice parody from In Living Color. :D

Anyway...

My WTF moment happened to me about two weeks ago as I sat in a parking place, enjoying a banana pudding milkshake and Tom Cochrane's "Mad, Mad World" CD. When a guy dressed up in jeans, a checkered shirt, boots and a cowboy hat (with no line dance place within 20 miles) wanders up to my Camry and says

"Hey, who is that? They picked a great song to cover, but I like the original better."

I looked at him like a toothbrush just fell out of his nose.

"Life is a Highway was recorded in 91 by this guy. Rascal Flatts covered it."

"Oooo, hell, naw. My nephew'd shoot you for sayin' that."

I showed him the CD case. He shook his head and walked way mumbling about "Them (censtored) Frenchies..." I could have stopped him to tell him Tom isn't from Quebec, but I didn't want his nephew to really come shoot me. :p

"Pop Goes The Weasel" by 3rd Bass, starring Henry Rollins in the Weasel role...CLASSIC!

Good luck- I had that one bookmarked and can't find it now. I can only find the concert version and a couple of others, not the one from ILC.

Yeah, I was the WTF? person in this case. I was in the car with my mom and "Ice, Ice, Baby" began. She commented that she was surprised they would play "Under Pressure" on my station. I looked at her like she was crazy as I asked her how "Ice, Ice, Baby" sounded even remotely similar to "Pressure" by Billy Joel.

Somehow, despite listening to alot of stuff by Queen at the time, I had missed "Under Pressure."
