Neverwinter Nights 2 pushed back.

Hate to say I told you so but...I did tell you so :)

The DM client was to be done in between Gold and release - so I doubt it. It's a non-issue. Either way - it's to be available on release. On disc or via patch is really neither here nor there.

I would not get too comfy with this date either. It might get pushed back to November (and it might not).

If it does get pushed to November - it won't get pushed after that though.

I consider this to be a positive, btw. The game needed more time and polish.

For those who are looking forward to kicking the tires - Obsidian will be attending GenCon and about 5 out of the 6 booths at the Atari island will be focusing on NWN2.

I doubt the DM Client will be included anyway. Including the DM Client means a whole extra set of QA/QC issues that have to be checked by Obsidian, and then checked again by Atari, and then approved. That process rarely goes through the first time unless there's serious problems at the management level... which for all that people would lambast Atari, I highly doubt.

For those not at Gencon - but who might make it to other cons this summer...read on!

NEW YORK, NY – July 18, 2006 – Atari, Inc (Nasdaq: ATAR) and Obsidian Entertainment today announced plans to visit and demonstrate the highly-anticipated Neverwinter Nights 2 at several consumer conventions this summer. Neverwinter Nights 2 is set in the DUNGEONS & DRAGONS® Forgotten Realms® universe created by Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS) and will transport players back to the embattled city of Neverwinter. DUNGEONS & DRAGONS is under license from the Hasbro Properties Group, the intellectual property development arm of Hasbro.

The Neverwinter Nights 2 Summer Tour will include guest appearances, speaking engagements and product demonstrations at several popular consumer conventions, including San Diego’s Comic Con, Gen Con in Indianapolis, Seattle’s Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) and Dragon*Con in Atlanta. Attending fans will be treated to in-depth demonstrations of the Neverwinter Nights 2 single-player campaign, its multiplayer capabilities, as well as tutorials of the immensely powerful toolset that will ship with the game this fall.

Obsidian Entertainment attendees will include founders Feargus Urquhart, Chris Avellone, and Darren Monahan, as well as senior producer Ryan Rucinski and designers Josh Sawyer and Annie Carlson. Fans will receive the opportunity to interact with the Obsidian team — the video game developers behind some of the most well-known role-playing franchises of all time — including Baldur’s Gate™, Neverwinter Nights, Planescape: Torment™, Icewind Dale™, Fallout™ and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II™.

The Nevewinter Nights 2 Summer Tour schedule:

Comic Con: July 20-23 at San Diego, CA
Gen Con Indy: August 10-13 at Indianapolis, IN
Penny Arcade Expo (PAX): August 25-27 at Bellevue, WA
Dragon*Con: September 1-4 at Atlanta, GA

Releasing it in time for lots of Christmas sales seems most likely to me.

I don't really care. I'm far more interested in community projects slated for the original NWN like DLA's upcoming release, the final version of CEP 2, and the CTP.

More time for me to save up for a new machine. *wry* At least all the con appearances shows they really do know who their market is.
