New 4E ad causing problems

Sidebar ads are not that unusual on web sites. They are unusual on forums pages, but I actually like the sidebar ads better than the In-the-Post ads I've started seeing on Yuku forums.

If you use the stealth theme, the ads don't look annoying at all. Still possibly a bit intrusive, but white-on-white is much easier on the eye than white-on-black.

I guess the main complaint is the fact that it's white on black right? I mean, if it were the same colour as the rest of the board, it wouldn't be quite so.... Obtrusive.

Not for me - for me it's that it's a sidebar ad in a forum page.

... which means that impressions numbers go down, and everyone who's not running an ad blocker gets even more ads in the long run.

Whatever. Until the sidebar ads came up I never ran an adblocker. And I actually read the banner ads (hey there might be something cool up there like a new The Le pdf!). Now I read none of them. if you have to read few more - that, frankly, isn't my problem. If I could just block the sidebar ad i would but I can't so I block 'em all.

Here's the thing, in terms of advertising...

If you can ignore the ads easily (like the ones at the top and bottom of the page), they aren't very useful as ads, and so aren't worth much to the advertisers. The fact that it is annoying you means that you see it - and that's good for ads.

Nope it just means that I see none of the ads on the site. Which actually kind of bugs me as there is almost always something cool being advertised here.

Annoying ads are not good ads.

My problem with the ad is that it displays while I'm in Stealth at work. And it's not very stealthy. Kind of gives me away, ya know?

So, I suppose I'm going to have to stop reading enworld from work until the ad expires. I understand the need for money but it's more annoying than the value of the board, at least for me. Thankfully, the ad doesn't display AT ALL for me at home. I don't know why. It's just not there, but the top and bottom ads are there. I'll take what I can get, though.

Thanks, amigo. I can go back to Stealthing enworld at work, then. Though I think my subscription expired yesterday, as I suddenly couldn't Search. I'll have to renew it again when I get paid. I thought it was longer, can't recall. Either way, thanks for the option. The ad only is a concern for me while at work.
