New Adult Swim anime - TRINITY BLOOD and BLEACH

CrusaderX

First Post
Both shows are supposed to debut this Saturday starting at midnight.

Trinity Blood:

The background is in the distant future, a post-apocalyptic world after the destruction brought about by Armageddon. The war between humans (Terran) and vampires (Methuselah) continues, as a struggle between two factions: the Vatican and the New Human Empire. Yet, amidst the bloodshed and violence, many desire a peaceful co-existence between the two species. However, standing between them and this goal is the Rosenkreuz Orden, a group of vampire extremists who manipulate the two sides and pit them against each other. To combat them, the Vatican special operations group "AX", led by Cardinal Caterina, must use everything they have - even a vampire who preys on the blood of other vampires.

Bleach:

Bleach follows the life of Ichigo Kurosaki, a 15-year-old high school student with the ability to see ghosts, and a shinigami (literally, "god of death"), or Soul Reaper in the English manga, named Rukia Kuchiki, who runs into him one day while searching for a hollow (an evil spirit). During the ensuing confrontation with the spirit, she is wounded and forced to transfer all of her powers into Ichigo. Thus the adventures of Ichigo and Rukia begin. Together they search for hollows and perform soul burials on wayward souls, cleansing the spirits and sending them to Soul Society.

Has anyone seen either show? Are they worth watching?

Ah Bleach. At 94 episodse and still kicking.

Bleach is great. It starts off fairly episodic monster of the week type deal then moves into a much more in depth plot after you've gotten to know the various main characters better like many anime series. The episodic episodes, though, I think are really good compared to, for example, the early Naruto episodes before they kick off the more serial aspects of the show.

It's got a style to it that is fairly distinct, too. For example, Ichigo can see ghosts, so when its showing things from that viewpoint (because most people can't see Hollows) everything is in more pastel colors, more vibrant. Then when the view returns to the normal human sight, the colors go back to normal.

I have a feeling we won't be seeing the awesome intro because of the cost of licensing the songs that they used in Bleach, which would cost a pretty penny. You can see the intros and closings on youtube, though, and the first opening is one of my favorite OP of all time.

I haven't seen much of Trinity Blood. It was licensed pretty quickly, so I stopped watching it then. I've heard really good things about it, though.

EDIT:

Sweeet, the [as] Bleach website has the 1st OP on it in convenient flash form. I'm pleasantly surprised.

I wonder if they will keep all the jokes about Inoue's chest. Her and Matsumoto could survive a head on colision at 100 mph with those air bags. In all seriousness, I think this is a very good show. I have seen all the fansubs, and I like it better then Naruto. That might be a function of the last 60 or so Narutos all being filler episodes, but I like the story line.

Those familiar with Naruto might be amused at the fact that Ishida from Bleach looks exactly like an older Sasuke Uchiha and they are done by the same voice actor.

I enjoyed the first episodes of both, though I liked Trinity Blood alot more than Bleach. I'm a sucker for a good Vatican vs. Vampires story. :)

I was disappointed with Bleach. I like the show a lot, but the dubbing was pretty bad, not in people's lips moving out of time, but because they left key words in japanese that would help people to understand what was going on.

For example, they left the opening and closing in Japanese and then didn't bother to subtitle it for the english audience, and the lyrics are actually pretty good, if you can understand them. Other non-translations were calling the Death Gods' swords zenpaktu instead of Soul Slayers, its just sort of jarring at first.

Blood Trinity looked good at first glance, though I'm not really big on the whole wandering demon/innocent traveler stereotype that they used for the priest. Between Trigun and Ruoroni Kenshin it sort of feels played out abit, but I'm definitely going to make time for the next couple of episodes.
