New Characters - Advice on building?

Actually, if you're trying to replicate Batman, Avenger is -exactly- what you want. Stealth? Yes. Zipping around the field? Yes. An unstoppable force that will destoy his opposition. Yes.

Go Warlord tho. They're seriously awesome.

Actually I know very little about both avenger and warlords. Of course I can read the books, but my experience from the fighter told me we know nothing until we start actually playing.

Took me 3 months to fully underestand the Combat Challenge x Combat Superiority diferences, considering builds, feats etc.

So if I would go warlord I was considering a balanced one, something like this:

S - 18
C - 10
D - 10
I - 14
W - 10
C - 14

Maybe a resorcefull or tactical one. Admitelly I am lost here. If I go Hector Style I will probably combine Spears/Javeling/swords and a light shield. I have noticed some powers that require heavy throw weapons, but I am still clueless about warlord builds.

I also admit that the Spear as a Simple Weapon annoys me a bit.

If you go Ranger for the 2-Weapon route, you should keep Dex at 14 and take Chainmail Proficiency (Dex 16 is costly and that's the point where Hide+Dex = Chainmail). With that you can pump Str, Wis and Con (13 to take Chainmail) and possibly invest in either Warlord for some tactical skills or Fighter for some heavy blade powers.

IME, it's best to focus your abilities. If you plan on going Resourceful warlord, go with Str/Int/Con and take a heavy thrown weapon + shield. In this case, the Tratnyr is the best.

I have to go with pursuit avenger for what you want for the rogue type.
they are the kings of going one on one. also they are pretty much the most manouverable class in the game, and can be incredibly sneaky.

the warlord with a spear, eladrin tactical, for sure. if you want javelins and thrown, resourcefull has some nice thrown weapon attacks, that add w to everyones attacks. resource lords are the kings of adding damage to attacks. you'll just have to take infernal strategist:P.

bravura warlords are really fun and depending on the party utterly nuts for the extra attacks.

As for the Rogue...

I was having trouble seeing an athletic man fighting with daggers, instead of swords, and them I remmembered this amazing movie. Great inspiration here:

- V for Vendetta -

V's fighting style is really nice to observe. He moves lightspeed using daggers both for melee attacks and throwing, getting "combat advantage" and sneaking in attacks.

Something that feels like V's fighting style fairly easy to get with a brutal rogue daggermaster with a good mix of melee/ranged powers.

Though if you want to play up the "Making the enemies shoot their own allies" angle trickster rogue works better.

Or if you want the intimidation angle ruthless ruffian.

Really, just take a rogue daggermaster and you're set.

A changeling rogue with the right feat can grant himself combat advantage every round at will... though only against medium sized humanoid opponents.

I like pascalnz's idea. For another thought go elven avenger with multiclass rogue. For level 1 take angelic alacrity to move 11 square (7 from normal move and 4 shift as part of the two dice attack) or whirlwind charge to go a total of 16 squares with a +4 AC to opportunity attacks against you. For the big bad, action point and use aspect of might to make yourself Nightwing on steroids (+5 acrobatics, +2 damage, +2 speed to move up to 9 squares per round.) Use bluff to get one combat advantage per encounter to do your hunter's quarry damage and hope someone comes up to flank so you can get the second round of sneak before the uses run out. For a weapon maybe go Double Sword proficiency to get +1 AC and a light blade to do sneak damage. For a god, go Tempus to get lots of extra fat damage once per encounter or twice with crusader's weapon. Skills would be acrobatics, perception, stealth, thievery, and religion (no option if avenger.) Go leather as soon as possible for armor.

Third option is same class with multiclass ranger. Take same powers but take a Double Flail as a weapon (much more like Nightwing.) Hunter's Quarry does not need combat advantage but does a little less damage. The weapon though will make up for it easily. With multiclass you can get some good damaging weapon powers at the same time that avengers seem to be stuck at 2[W] attacks mid heroic.
