New Clone in Town

Couple of weeks ago I had a nice quiet thread about clone Tainted over in Ads and Promos. (Broadly speaking, a S&W variant with much world-building fluff). Everything then hit a slight delay after breaking more ribs than is healthy.

Following the changes here it looks like this is now where to go. The same stage as recent retros, which have 'enjoyed' some, eh, entertaining debate. So, I'll just leave the blurb on the website.

Also leave the drivethruRPG link out, as I haven't posted enough sample content for anyone to get a decent try before you buy beyond the basic preview - that's for tomorrow. (Though the RPG content at Thistle Games is a pretty good guide).

Instead, might as well get on with fessing-up to the crimes I've committed in the name of rules light/ OSR and ask pardon:

chunks of blatant player choice propaganda
referee as a steady hand on the tiller
some well swingy monster sub-classes
every class can do something cool
unusual types of monster variant powers
kind of optional morality
loose framework for XP for going out and doing stuff
a fair bit on making players nervous
much top-down campaign design fluff

One thing I didn't do was use sections of Matt's Finch's S&W text without permission. (Matt has no involvement in the work itself).

So, does just the prospect of the above horrify? Or are there a few up for trying out such OSR fare - though not necessarily through Tainted?

It's all been a bit of a rush, but we now seem to have worked out everything at DriveThruRPG. Here's a link with a Christmas and New Year, (through to the end of January), discount code:

Tainted Christmas and New Year $9.99

No time for more - tonight's sample content post took most of the evening. Back shortly.

From a brief glance, it looks like a Swords and Wizardry hack with some extra rules and a 7th ability score (Taint).

That's a pretty decent passing summary :) The 'extra' is mainly a large dollop of campaign-building fluff.

Be back after work to hand out a bunch of complimentary copies.

The whole broken ribs thing meant setting aside anything promotional till the game was finished properly. Rather obviously we’ve been trying to catch-up in the last few days. The sample content will keep coming, but it seems a good idea to clear-up a few points:

The coupon link pricing of $9.99 through to the end of January is set to place us alongside a number of other cloned systems. For that there’s a rule set like many others – plus a stack of Thistle Games’ original content. Once that code is up further codes will follow and be made clearly available on the Thistle Games website.

Tainted comes with permission to print multiple copies of the Players’ Handbook section for personal use by players. That is as many Handbooks as a GM has players in a group. This covers the first 132 pages of Tainted. The Handbook may also be printed with the title page instead of the cover page – if any groups are concerned about the copy of Old Nick on the cover.

In other words, if you’re a college group, a club or such like it’s going to be fine to hand out personal copies to players as games get started.
We’re trying to put together a Christmas surprise using some further samples from Tainted and other material – but there are no details at this stage, because it’s hard to tell how far we’ll get before the 25th.

Right now we’re going to run a few giveaways of complimentary copies delivered via DriveThruRPG. These are going to involve 10 free copies each at the Old School Gamers’ Facebook page, the Tainted thread in RPG.NET Ads and Promos and this threadhttp://www.enworld.org/forum/general-rpg-discussion/315432-new-clone-town.html. To claim a copy be among the first 10 to post in one of those threads. One copy only please and then PM or message on Facebook.

Every effort will be made to set-up the complimentary downloads in time for Christmas Day. (Our usual terms apply, i.e. we allow ourselves 28 days).
