Merova

First Post
Hi all!

Another week, another new comics thread. So what have you all got this week?

Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to read my sequentials just yet. :(

I'll get them posted later. Thanks for reading and thanks for writing!

Supreme Power #4

This is the only thing I'm picking up monthly, though I'll probably start getting into the Flash and possibly other titles.

After my disappointment over Issue #3, which felt like an issue that had to be done but I found to be devoid of anything exciting or new or unexpected, this was a breath of fresh air. More excitement, a couple of unexpected (though should have been expected) developments, and the introduction of one new character. Well, we saw said character back in Issue #2, but he's vastly different now. Supreme Power is definitely a fun read of DC superheroes in a more realistic setting. Even funner since it's a Marvel book.

FKATJL & Hawkman

Hi all!

Here's a few that I've read so far:

Hawkman #21: Continuing with the Headhunter story from last month's cliffhanger. Lots of action, but not much story. A fun, albeit light, read. (3.5 out of 5)

FKATJL #5: Very silly, but not in a good way. Nothing happens in this issue. There are a few clever gags that get tossed in, but not enough to make this an interesting read. (2 out of 5)

That's all for now. Still reading. :(

Y-Man, not sure of the current issue number, this issue seemed like filler after more than a few serious story arches. All in all not bad, this is a tittle I recommend.

I have a "few" others but haven't had time to read them all yet. :(

Gold Digger #46 - This issue continues with Gina exploring the interior of the strange masoleum Monty took her to, and her friends going after her.

This issue was more satisfying in terms of the story it presented. Not only were the visuals incredibly beautiful, but a lot of plot background was explained...though it was explained in a manner that created nothing but more questions.

The theme of the comic as of late has been to go back and raise questions about the stuff we saw back in the very first issues, and this doesn't deviate from that. We see an incredibly ancient conference of dragons discussing...something...about them losing ground to the humanoids. Hints are maddeningly dropped in regards to Merlin, Dreadwing, and the Time Raft. Likewise, we also see past scenes of Tark and Mesha, but very different from how we know them now - they were, apparently, once very power-hungry and rather evil in how they got it.

It was also nice to see Fred doing what he does best in this issue - fan service! Last issue was odd in how light it was on the visual eye-candy, and this one returns to the norm for the amount of such reader treats displayed.

Heya:

Ultimate Spider-Man #49: I love Bendis' pacing and dialogue. Seeing J. Jonah Jamison demonstrate why he's in the newspaper biz, why he was against Spidey, and why he'll hopefully be more fair and balanced was cool. I wish they'd stop using that paper on the outside. It sucks.

Supreme Power #4: Very enjoyable series so far. I like the artwork, Gary Frank was on Preacher, right? Also, was Mark Milton aware of the setup with his "parents"? The glances and such during the story made it seem so, but I wasn't so sure at the end.

Powers #35: Brian Michael Bendis again, gosh, what a surprise. After Christian was off the force and getting sued by the government, etc., I wondered what Triphammer meant when he said something about not telling them the "real truth". Now we know and it's an interesting story. Change is okay, I s'pose, but I really liked the "cops in a super hero world" focus and I kinda hope they get back to that. Plus, I wanna see more of Deena Pilgrim. My favorite scene in the entire run: "Where were you the night Johnny Royale was murdered? Yeah. Uh huh. That's what I thought, so don't go and give me that holier than thou crap."

Alias #28: No more bad language, aigh! Last issue was far more cool, with The Purple Man's warnings not to skip to the last page, since something really bad probably happens then. And what do you know. I liked the stuff at the end of #28 with Luke Cage, even though it was kind of a tidy wrap up for the new non-bad language series.

Exiles #37: If they ever kill off Morph, I'm dropping the book. I like the artwork although I'm not sure the stories have been as cool as they were when the series started. Magik (or whatever she's called) seems to be on the team purely as the resident biznatch.

Superman: Birthright #5: Oh! So this is like the unofficial extension to Smallville? I didn't realize that. Cool series and I _loved_ Supes calling Lex "You diseased maniac!" Woo!

Take care,
Dreeble

That's the major annoyance I have with Supreme Power. All the glances they have Mark do. Some are to signify he's feeling alone, but alot of them feel out of place. Unless he's psychic or something.

Which'd be Martian Manhunter's domain, not Supes.
