Free League's 2nd Edition of its 2019 Alien roleplaying game is coming to Kickstarter--and with over 10,000 followers waiting for it, it looks to be another blockbuster crowdfunded from the Swedish company.

Included in the new core rulebook will be content based on the recent Alien: Romulus movie, with information about the mining colony Jackson's Star, along with weapons like the F44AA Pulse Rifle and the USCSS Corbelan IV mining hauler.

The Kickstarter has been delayed from this Fall until Spring 2025. Free League says that since Gen Con in August, fans gave offered ideas and feedback, and the publisher wishes to bring those ideas to the table.

The Kickstarter will include the new core rulebook, along with a new starter set, a boxed set adventure called Rapture Protocol, and a range of miniatures. Free League's original Alien RPG won multiple ENnies and other awards.

React or die is an Alien theme. Bumping up pulse rifle damage seems like an easy GM fix. So, are these really problems?
If I point out what I see as a flaw in the rule as written then I think those are really problems. And yes, the death spiral due to how Stress works is a problem because it's not fun. It's something that needs to be addressed. If these issues aren't addressed then there's no reason for me to purchase a new edition of the game.

This franchise really should've been retired a long time ago. All the studio interference and director insanity has turned a once interesting premise into incoherent mush.

Can the stress problem be addressed with one rule: "party stress gain does not require an immediate stress check?"

I wouldn't write off a new edition just because I thought one of the weapons should do one or two more points of damage. It would take a bit more, like rewriting all of the classes to make the prior, compatible classes obsolete. But I understand why you'd call these things problems.

Maybe? It's such a common problem that it even has its own name, Panic Cascade. I'm looking forward to seeing how it's going to be addressed.

What reason do I have to purchase a new edition if the problems from the previous edition aren't addressed?

Oh, lord. I have the first edition but have never actually played it. And yet I'm still tempted to buy the 2nd edition, knowing that I probably will never play that, either.

If I knew that one of the improvements was going to be improved readability for aging eyes, I would definitely do it. 1st edition is nearly unreadable.

Will it credit me for the material referenced from my book on the Colonial Marines? It would be nice to at least get a mention.
Probably not, that's not usually how licensed properties operate.

Did you write an officially licensed book on the Colonial Marines? If so, it's possible some of your work has become Alien "canon" and is in the RPG. But you won't likely see a credit unless they borrow directly and heavily from your book.
